Nick Kyrgios has confirmed he will miss next month's Australian Open at Melbourne Park due to ongoing injury concerns, with the 28-year-old describing the decision as "heartbreaking".

Kyrgios made the announcement on the subscription website OnlyFans, which he joined on Friday.

"This is a very disappointing time for me, but I won't be able to compete at the 2024 Australian Open," Kyrgios said.

"Obviously, heartbreaking. I've had so many amazing memories there, and I just want to really get back to playing at the top of my game and doing it right, and I need a little more time.

"I was so close to winning a grand slam [at 2022 Wimbledon]. I want to make sure that my body is going to have the time it needs to come back, so please bear with me."

Kyrgios has been hampered by knee and wrist injuries in 2023, which restricted the Canberran to playing just one match at the ATP Tour level.

He had surgery on his knee after being forced out of last January's Australian Open before he was even able to take the court.

Kyrgios contested the Stuttgart ATP Tour event on grass in June, but a wrist injury saw him sidelined from Wimbledon and the remainder of the season.

His decision not to play the Australia Open did not come as a surprise, as his name was absent from the tournament's main draw listing when it was released on Thursday.

Kyrgios said he would still attend the Australian Open, where he will work in TV commentary.
