Nick Kyrgios will be on uncle duties during the Australian Open after his brother Christos and wife Alicia welcomed their second baby into the world.

Kyrgios will for the second straight year be consigned to watching the first grand slam of the season from home as he continues to recover from a wrist injury, though he is expected to be involved in the tournament in some form, having dipped his toe into tennis commentary in recent months overseas.

But he will have to juggle commitments at Melbourne Park with some family time after becoming an uncle for the second time on Wednesday.

Alicia Kyrgios gave birth to Sofia Aurora Kyrgios on January 3, and wasted no time in sharing the good news.

In a joint post later that night, Alicia and Christos wrote: “A core memory. Sofia Aurora Kyrgios — welcome to this strange, wonderful world.”

Nick’s brother also posted a photo of himself holding his new daughter with a beaming smile.

Separately, Alicia shared a touching moment with their eldest child, George, who was born in 2022.

“First visit to meet baby sissy was a success. But he was way more interested in stealing mummy’s protein shake,” Alicia wrote with a laughing emoji.

Christos is a sports coach as well as being heavily involved in his brother’s NK Foundation, which provides underprivileged kids with opportunities through sport.

Alicia is a three-time world champion fitness model, but now practices sports nutrition.

Nick has been dating partner Costeen Hatzi for just over two years now and, when asked if he too would like to be a father, was emphatic.

“I would like (kids) asap. But Coz (Costeen) would like to wait a year and a half,” Kyrgios said on Instagram in November 2022, replying to a fan’s question.

Kyrgios played just one competitive match on tour in 2023 before being struck down with a knee injury that required surgery, from which he has admitted he tried to come back too early.

He later suffered the wrist complaint that continues to keep him on the sidelines.
