This Nike Cosmic Unity 3 Is Giving "Silver Bullet" Vibes

In the Nike lexicon, “Silver Bullet” is a moniker that implies streamlined speed, and, yes, shimmering silver hues. It was first introduced back in 1997 on the titular colorway of the Air Max 97, masterfully designed by Christian Tresser, and since then it’s lived many an alternate life via other silhouettes that pay homage to the original style. Now, that homage roster is growing by one as Nike Basketball has introduced a “Silver Bullet”- style colorway of the Cosmic Unity 3.

Though the original “Silver Bullet” was inspired by bicycles, Japanese bullet trains (unofficially, but the myth has such legs that it’s stuck) and how a drop of water ripples outwards on a flat surface and the Cosmic Unity 3 is based on sustainability, Earth-friendly materials and a largely hand-hewn look, there’s still plenty to work with here. The knit upper uses several different silver shades, just like the original Air Max 97, while the midsole features a small red Swoosh surrounded by a mesh panel for a direct nod to the Air Max 97’s famed midfoot Swoosh. Patterened detailing, tongue and heel tabs and “Cosmic Unity” hits on the heel complete the look.

An official release date for the Nike Cosmic Unity “Silver Bullet” has yet to be announced, but it’s likely to touch down in the first quarter of 2024. When it does, it should be priced at $160.
