21YO DEBUTANT, HOMETOWN HERO GRANTED INSTANT $5K BONUS

Dharringarra Trewhella may have got the nod over Brent Walton, but both fighters were rewarded for their four round barnburner as No Limit CEO George Rose revealed they’d be heading home with $5,000 bonuses.

Hometown hero Walton was roared on by a passionate fan base, but it was the slick work from Trewhella that earned him a unanimous decision victory (39-38, 39-36, 38-37).

Trewhella also scored a crucial knockdown in the first round that no doubt helped edge the scorecards in his favour as the 21-year-old — who is also the nephew of Australian boxing great Anthony ‘Choc’ Mundine — dazzled in his debut.

Immediately after the fight, Rose hopped in the ring and took the mic and confirmed the duo would be handsomely compensated for their electric bout.

‘CHOC’ TELLS AUSSIE CHAMP TO ‘STAY IN HIS LANE’

Anthony ‘Choc’ Mundine has told Australian champion Dylan Biggs to ‘stay in his lane’ and walk to the ring first in his hyped title defence against fellow rising star Nikita Tszyu.

In the crowd at Newcastle Entertainment Centre, Mundine told journalists he had also walked last when he fought Marc Bagero in 2001, back when the Central Coast fighter was national champion.

Asked about Biggs’ threat to stay in his dressing room until Tszyu walked, Mundine said: “Nikita’s given him the opportunity, put him on a stage like this.

“It’s an opportunity to catapult his career and popularity within the sport.

“He’s gotta know who he is and stay in his lane. And that’s the B-side lane.

“That’s just that.

“I gave the sport mouth-to-mouth when I came in. I revived it and now it’s flourishing from the Tszyu boys.

“They’re carrying the torch.

“I had my time, at the moment it’s Tszyu time and they’ve gotta call the shots.”

MAGIC MARK SCHLEIBS DELIVERS ‘KO OF THE YEAR’

Mark Schleibs has secured his first win since 2019 with a vicious knockout of Shamal Ram Anuj.

Despite a ripping body shot from Anuj forcing a grimace from the Victorian in the first round, Schleibs dominated the remainder of the contest.

And dominate Schleibs did, with a thunderous left hook knocking out Aruj cold.

It was some time before Aruj came around, but thankfully he was able to leave the ring.

Schleibs’ brutal finish left Main Event commentary duo Barry Michael and Billy Dib in awe.

“He was asleep straight away,” Michael said.

“One of the best knockouts I’ve seen in ages. An unbelievable knockout.”

Dib added: “That has to be knockout of the year!”

PREVIEW

Nikita Tszyu could be forced into a long wait in his dressing room should Dylan Biggs stick solid with his promise to walk out last, amid an ongoing dispute between camps ahead of Wednesday night’s blockbuster fight.

While promoters No Limit are pushing to break from boxing tradition and have Tszyu, as the undeniable A side, walk last, Team Biggs are refusing to budge – and have hinted they will gladly wager a ‘stand off’ if required.

Australian boxing legend Jeff Fenech is one figure who believes it must be Biggs who walks last, such is the tradition for champions.

“If I’m being honest, I don’t care what you are or who you are, it’s alwas the champion that’s supposed to walk out last,” Fenech told Wide World of Sports.

“Should they change it? No they shouldn’t. Just go and win the title and then you’ll be a champion and come out last. You earn that.

“Biggs has earned that. He fought for the Australian title and won so it should be him.”

American boxing great Shawn Porter — who will feature as part of Main Event’s coverage — also urged the champ to stick to his guns, despite No Limit CEO George Rose having already stated that Wednesday night’s showdown “is the Nikita Tszyu show”.

So Tszyu shouldn’t go last then?

“Nah, that’s not gunna happen,” Porter insisted.

“The champion walking last is part of boxing religion.

“And Dylan should make a fuss about it.

“He should be walking second.

“Although I’m absolutely not surprised by any of this.

“It’s the job of No Limit to get into Dylan’s head.

“And Nikita should do that as well.

“It makes all the sense in the world.

“But I think on fight night Dylan will end up walking second, and he should”.
