NRL stars getting mega paydays off the field
Some of the NRL’s biggest stars have made big moves off the field this year – taking their talents into the real estate game and scoring mega deals for a range of properties.
NATHAN BROWN
Former NRL coach and player Nathan Brown sold his Sutherland Shire home in May for a whopping $6.6m.
Brown and his wife Tanya had purchased the waterfront property in 2009 for $1.62m.
The couple had rebuilt the home in 2018, after it was damaged in a fire.
They created a three-level, five-bedroom home on the 925sq m holding on the Port Hacking River, with a number of wraparound balconies that overlook the bay. There’s lift access to two of the levels. Down by the water, there’s a jetty, pontoon, slip rails and a boathouse.

The former coach, who most recently was the Parramatta Eels elite pathways coaching director, had also been the head coach at the Knights, Warriors and northern England’s Huddersfield Giants and winner of a premiership at St Helens in the Super League.
BEN TRBOJEVIC – MANLY SEA EAGLES
Emerging young Manly Sea Eagle star Ben Trbojevic made a savvy investment in the property game in March this year.
The young gun and first time buyer spent $1.175m on a two-bedroom apartment on the Northern Beaches.
The Narrabeen apartment had a guide of $1.12m with Trbojevic snatching it up pre-auction.
Choosing to rentvest, the property sought out $750-a-week tenants, which would score him a 3.3 per cent yield.

The first-floor unit in the Tambu building, near Narrabeen Surf Club, last sold for $535,000 in 2011, according to property records.
Trbojevic’s brothers, Sea Eagles and Blue Origin stars Jake and Tom Trbojevic are also known for not only their place on the field, but investing in the property too.
GEORGE PIGGINS – SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS
Earlier this year, South Sydney Rabbitohs icon George Piggins and his wife Nolene scored $3.1m selling their Burrawang farm retreat, Cadwarri, after 38 years of ownership.
The 18ha Southern Highlands holding was sold through Ray White agents Hugh and Charlotte Hanrahan, who had it listed with a $3m to $3.3m guide.
The South Coogee couple purchased the property in 1986 for $177,000.
The Illawarra Highway property boasts 15 paddocks and four dams.
Its 12 horse stables complex was bigger than the three-bedroom, two-bathroom 1970s cottage, which has views over Wingecarribee Reservoir.
KYLE FLANAGAN – ST GEORGE DRAGONS
St George Dragons player Kyle Flanagan and his fiancee Caity Airey signed an off-market deal earlier in the year.
Purchasing their Bunadeer home for $2.65m from Ms Airey’s parents.
If the couple were to sell up, they could likely get a much higher price than the family friendly deal.
PropTrack places Bunadeer’s median house price at $3m, or $3.2375m for a four bedroom home.
The Flanagan home has five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a pool.
James Maloney – North Queensland Cowboys
Two-time premiership winner James Maloney and his wife Jess Anderson sold their former Maroubra home in February as the retired player joined the North Queensland Cowboys’ coaching staff for the next two seasons.
The Manwaring Ave entertainer has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and space for two cars.
The price guide was reportedly $2.3m, which then sold for $2.75m in Feb.
It was bought in 2012 for $1,160,000, giving the couple a $1.59m windfall in 12 years.
Buyers were told it has previously been a $1400 per week rental.
