36 Tallai Drive, Tallai is going to auction.

A private oasis awaits in a recently renovated hinterland home complete with its own multipurpose tennis court, swimming pool, food forest and sweeping Gold Coast skyline views.

Set on more than 6000sq m of landscaped gardens, 36 Tallai Rd in Tallai is within easy reach of Robina and just minutes from the M1.

But according to owners Elissa and Gary Semaan, it feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

The couple bought the property in 2019 after being drawn to its position and potential. “At that stage it was quite dated but had these fabulous high ceilings, views and an outlook,” Elissa recalls.

“It was really peaceful, and we could see what it could be.”

Envisaging it as an ideal family home for their four children, the Semaans embarked on a major renovation, gutting the interior, rearranging the floorplan and replacing all windows.

“We wanted it to be light and bright with lots of natural sunlight,” Elissa said. “The aim was to create our own private oasis.”

The result is a spacious and meticulously renovated five-bedroom home that also includes a triple garage, media room and central living areas that take in all available views.

“One whole side of the house has windows and you look out at this great view over the city,” Elissa said.

“The kitchen and dining areas flow out to the outdoor space, pool and firepit, and all the entertaining areas have a relationship with each other which creates this seamless flow.”

The property is nestled among nature.

There is an indoor-outdoor flow.

The home’s design lends itself to entertaining, with the property hosting numerous events and large family gatherings.

“Because of the way it’s designed, there are lots of little breakout spaces,” Elissa said.

“We’ve had up to 120 people here and it never feels crowded.”

The outdoor entertaining areas include a covered alfresco area and a viewing deck that takes in vistas of the Gold Coast city skyline, along with a tennis court which serves as a multipurpose sporting space.

“My husband is a big basketball fan, so we put in a proper basketball hoop, volleyball net and marked it all out accordingly,” she says.

Sustainability is also a focus, with the couple investing in large water tanks and solar, while planting a food forest, vegetable patch and array of edible gardens.

“We started planting the food forest even before we moved in,” Elissa said.

“We have things like a citrus hedge while fruit trees are interspersed throughout the garden.

“On Sundays my husband will take a basket, picking the fruit and it’s a lovely journey to see what we can find.”

There are plenty of different areas to relax.

After the seven-month renovation phase, the Semaans moved into the home just prior to the pandemic, with the property quickly living up to all their expectations.

“It was perfect timing,” she says.

“It really is like being in an oasis with lots of outdoor spaces to enjoy.”

The property has the added bonus of being within easy reach of shopping centres, schools and the Gold Coast’s famous beaches.

“Everything is within a 20-minute drive, but it’s this wonderful place to relax, entertain and enjoy the natural surrounds.”

The Hinterland hideaway at 36 Tallai Rd is listed with Brad Coyne of Kollosche and goes to auction on October 11.
