Oppenheimer is officially rated R, marking Christopher Nolan's first film to earn the rating since 2002's Insomnia.

First reported by Variety, Universal Pictures confirmed the rating today. A new TV spot for the movie says the rating is for, "Some sexuality, nudity, and language". Since Insomnia, Nolan has directed the Dark Knight trilogy, The Prestige, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, and Tenet, all of which earned the PG-13 rating.

Oppenheimer is also set to be the longest movie of Nolan's career so far, clocking in just shy of three hours. The movie stars Cillian Murphy as American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb.

The latest Oppenheimer trailer showed a lot of new footage, including a quick look at the moments leading up to the Trinity nuclear test. Nolan has previously said he recreated the devastation of the first atomic bomb without using CGI.

Alongside Murphy, Oppenheimer stars Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Josh Peck, David Dastmalchian, and more. Oppenheimer will hit theaters on July 21, the same day as Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie.
