Hollywood star Orlando Bloom lived in Prague for years during the filming of Amazon’s recently-concluded series Carnival Row, and the actor apparently became a big fan of Czech beer during that time. Bloom has now signed on to become the new brand ambassador for Prague-based brewery Staropramen, parent company Molson Coors has just announced.

Bloom, also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, will star in a new TV commercial and social media campaign for Staropramen set to launch throughout Europe later this year. He’ll also be seen in the upcoming movies Gran Turismo, directed by Neill Blomkamp, and in A24’s Wizards, opposite Pete Davidson.

“I’m happy to be representing such a quality product like Staropramen,” the actor states through a press release. “I think it’s important to partner with brands that practice what they preach. The team at Staropramen talk about quality and expertise a lot and, when it comes down to it, this is a great-tasting beer, brewed by some incredibly talented people.”

“I fell in love with Prague when I lived and worked there for a few years. It’s a wonderful city filled with amazing people, but they’re a tough crowd to please when it comes to beer,” Bloom adds. “Staropramen has been catering to this discerning audience for well over a century, which tells you just how good it is.”

Staropramen’s announcement of Bloom as its new brand ambassador comes on the heels of the brand expanding worldwide into markets throughout Europe, Asia, and beyond. While Staropramen doesn’t have the brand strength of national beverage Pilsner Urquell in the Czech Republic, it’s sold as a premium beer in most markets abroad.

The company also launched their zero-alcohol beer Staropramen 0.0 earlier this year in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and other European markets. Parent company Molson Coors is seeking further market penetration for the Czech brand with Bloom as its ambassador.

“Staropramen’s brand is all about celebrating world-class expertise,” says Debbie Mack, beer brands director for Molson Coors in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific. “Who better to represent this than a globally recognized acting talent like Orlando?”

The new advert starring Bloom was filmed in Prague as part of Staropramen’s “Brewed by Experts, for Experts” campaign, which launched worldwide last year. The campaign positions the Czech beer as an expertly-brewed beverage for discerning drinkers.

“Prague is home to some of the world’s finest expert brewers and is one of the most discerning and hard-to-please beer cultures in the world,” Mack says.

“Orlando is the perfect partner for Staropramen – he is a master of his trade, just like our brew masters, and has a special affinity with Prague having lived and worked there for several years.”

The new advert reportedly features Bloom in some of Prague’s most famous locations before he discovers the secrets of Staropramen at the brewery itself in the city’s Smíchov neighborhood.

Bloom moved to Prague in 2017 during the lengthy filming of Carnival Row, one of the most expensive productions to ever shoot in the Czech Republic. The actor lived in the city for much of the next five years as the two-season series went through reshoots and pandemic-related delays.

The final season of Carnival Row, in which Bloom stars alongside Cara Delevigne, premiered on Amazon’s Prime Video earlier this year.
