Australia have fielded 158 para-athletes across 17 sports at the Paris 2024 Paralympics which began in the French capital on August 29.

The Paris 2024 Paralympics kicked off with the Opening Ceremony on August 29 while the Closing Ceremony will bring proceedings to an end on September 9.

Para athletics, with 34 athletes, and para swimming, with 30 members, are the best represented sports for Australia at Paris 2024. They are also the most successful sports for the nation in the history of the Paralympics, accounting for 486 and 453 medals, respectively.

The Australian Paralympics team won 80 medals, including 21 gold, at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics three years ago.

Australia’s best performance at the Paralympic Games came on home soil at Sydney 2000. They topped the medals tally after winning 63 gold medals, 39 silver and 47 bronze medals for a total of 149.

Australia have participated in every Paralympic Games since its inception in 1960.

At the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Australia have won four medals – one gold, one silver and two bronze - so far.
