Perth Scorchers

An incredible knock from Laurie Evans proved too great to overcome for the Adelaide Strikers, with the Perth Scorchers prevailing at Optus Stadium by 42 runs on Wednesday night.

Evans brought up an 18-ball 50 - the fastest in Scorchers history - and ultimately finished with an unbeaten 28-ball 85.

A good stint from Matt Short gave the Strikers at least some hope, but the Scorchers’ total proved far too great to overcome, dropping 7-16 in their efforts to chase down their opponents.

It means the Scorchers remain undefeated this season, while the Strikers’ season is on the ropes.

MATCH RECAP

The Strikers won the flip and elected to bowl first.

While the Scorchers got through the opening few overs without loss of wickets, a number of edges could’ve easily gone the other way.

Sam Whiteman pulled off a couple of impressive boundaries but Thornton sent him packing for 31.

The Scorchers started to fire via Aaron Hardie and Laurie Evans, with Hardie gifted a golden reprieve when D’Arcy Short dropped an absolute sitter in the field.

Evans began to put together a brilliant innings, striking boundaries at will in a huge knock for his side.

It resulted in an 18-ball 50, the fastest in Scorchers history and the second-fastest this season.

Incredibly, Evans continued to dominate all the way to the end of the innings, with a 28-ball 85 stunning the Optus Stadium crowd, not to mention the Strikers.

“How ridiculously good is this from Laurie Evans!?” Corbin Middlemas exclaimed on Fox Cricket, with his co-commentators dubbing the knock “extraordinary”

The Scorchers finished with 211.

The loss of D’Arcy Short early for the Strikers was a setback as they struggled to build runs the way the Scorchers managed to do for much of their innings.

Matt Short did his best to help the Strikers with a half-century off 32 balls before departing for 74 off 44.

Short’s departure saw the dominoes begin to fall rapidly, with the Scorchers easing to victory, headlined by a brilliant spell from Lance Morris that saw him take 5-24, including 12 dot balls.
