Comwire Business Lunch Series with special guest Nathan Buckley

Nathan Buckley headlines the first Comwire Lunch of 2024.

ONE of Port Adelaide's favourite sons and one of the most decorated players in the AFL returns to Alberton for the first Comwire Lunch of 2024.  

Originally born in Adelaide, Nathan Buckley spent much of his younger years travelling around Australia. After spending his teenage years in the Northern Territory and playing in the local leagues he came back to South Australia and joined Port Adelaide in 1991. 

Buckley had one of the most incredible debut seasons of league football in 1992. As well as being part of the Port Adelaide SANFL Premiership team, he won the club Best and Fairest, the Jack Oatey Medal as best on ground in the grand final and the Magarey Medal as the competition’s fairest and most brilliant player. After this stand out year he was drafted by Brisbane into the AFL.  

After one season he shifted to Collingwood where the accolades continued throughout his 280 game AFL playing career. He won the AFL Rising Star award in 1993, was a six-time winner of the Copeland Trophy (Collingwood best and fairest), a seven-time All-Australian, and he won the 2002 Norm Smith Medal as the best player in a losing Grand Final before claiming the ultimate – the 2003 Brownlow Medal as the AFL’s best and fairest player. Buckley’s truly magnificent playing career came to an end in 2007.

In 2010, he returned to Collingwood as an assistant coach under the great Mick Malthouse before being elevated to the position of senior coach in 2012 where he would spend the next ten years in the top job, winnig the AFL Coaches’ Association Coach of the Year in 2018. His connection to the AFL after almost 500 games as a player and coach remains through his work as a media analyst and commentator across Fox Footy and SEN radio.
