Entries close both in-store and online at 7.30pm AEST today before the lottery is drawn tonight.

The Lott expects up to half of all Australian adults to grab a ticket into the draw.

"This is the time when office chatter turns into work syndicates, and everyone becomes a dreamer, plotting how they'd spend a share of the phenomenal $100 million prize," the Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said.

"The last time we saw a $100 million Powerball draw was in May when, the peak of sales was at 6.44pm on the day of the draw when more than 7980 tickets were sold in a single minute.

"On that occasion, the prize wasn't won and it jackpotted to $150 million, which delivered Australia's biggest individual lottery winner – an Adelaide man."

The latest Powerball will also be the sixth largest jackpot in Australian lottery history, according to the Lott.

Hopeful ticketholders are urged to register their tickets online so the winner can be contacted after the draw.

"Could we crown our equal third-biggest lottery winner in Australian history on Thursday night if one player claims the entire $100 million Powerball prize?" Hobdell said.

"We can't wait to find out."

Of the 20 Powerball division one winning entries last year, eight landed in New South Wales, seven in Victoria, two in both South Australia and Western Australia and one in Queensland.

All services are free, confidential and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
