On Thursday, Nat Barr was joined by Hart on Sunrise ahead of the draw, and asked what benefit newsagency owners received for selling the winning ticket.

“They get a commission for every ticket sale, but they don’t get any bonus for selling a Division One win,” Hart said.

“They get a lovely plaque, and they display it very proudly.”

However he noted that selling a winning ticket could make the outlet popular among players.

“Some people really gravitate to those outlets that have sold or have a track record of selling Division One wins,” he said.

According to Hart, the draw on Thursday is the sixth-biggest jackpot offered by any Australian lottery game.

If one person takes home the entire $100 million, they will be the second-biggest lottery winner in Australian lotteries history.

As many as half of all adult Australians expected to buy a Powerball ticket for their chance to win, players are being urged to take note of a crucial — but easy-to-miss — piece of advice from The Lott.

“We strongly suggest seeking professional financial advice for major lottery wins to ensure you receive the maximum benefit from your good fortune,” it advises on its website.
