King Charles has hosted his first Buckingham Palace garden party since being diagnosed with cancer, while his son, Prince Harry, attended an Invictus Games 10th anniversary celebration at nearby St Paul's Cathedral.

The Duke of Sussex is only in London for a few days, but it has been confirmed his father will be too busy to meet with the 39-year-old while he's in town.

But while royal watchers are speculating this is an intentional "snub" by the British Monarch of his son, a spokesperson has confirmed the young prince completely understands.

"Prince Harry's spokesperson gave me a statement yesterday about the fact that he was very understanding that his father couldn't see him," GB News royal correspondent, Cameron Walker, told Today.

"It was a far-flung away from a statement I would expect to receive from the Sussexes just a couple of years ago, when the late Queen stripped Harry of his honorary military titles and patronages."

But Cameron said all this talk of the King intentionally avoiding his son is taking away from what's really important about Harry's visit to the UK.

"It's just distracting from the whole point of why Prince Harry was here, which was celebrating veterans and all their achievements," he said.

"We do need to remember of course, the King's diary is planned months and months in advance and if Prince Harry only asked last minute to see his father, you perhaps can see a situation as to why that wasn't possible."

Considering the King's current health, some have argued he could surely spare just 10 minutes to speak with his son.

But since returning to his official royal duties this month, the King has a fully booked calendar and it may not be good for him to meet with Harry.

"No one knows how you're going to feel when you've got cancer and I do know one thing, that stress in any way, shape or form you want to avoid," Cameron said.

"So maybe that's playing into Charles, but when I saw Harry this morning, I was very moved by the service and that's when I felt like, oh, God, it'd be good if they got to see each other."
