Game Recap: Ravens Fall to Raiders in Home Opener

15 Sep 2024
Ravens vs Raiders

The Ravens took a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, but three consecutive scoring drives from the Las Vegas Raiders handed Baltimore a 26-23 loss.

Here's how it happened:

Turning Point

On 3rd-and-goal from the 17-yard line, Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew II targeted Davante Adams in the end zone and Brandon Stephens batted it away, but he was called for pass interference. It was a questionable call, and the Raiders scored on the next play to tie the game at 23.

Baltimore went three-and-out on its next drive and then the Raiders kicked the game-winning field goal with 27 seconds left.

Top Play

The Ravens had a quiet first half running the ball, but Derrick Henry changed that to start the second half. Henry bulldozed for a 29-yard run, including his signature stiff arm at the end, to set up first-and-goal for Baltimore. Two plays later, the Ravens scored their first touchdown of the day.

Statistical Breakdown

Stock Watch

OLB Odafe Oweh

The Oweh breakout has looked like it's coming all offseason, and on Sunday he had one of his best games as a pro with 2.5 sacks. He opened the game with a sack of Gardner Minshew II, and later in the first quarter got Minshew again on third down. Oweh also added half a sack in the fourth quarter. It was Oweh's first multi-sack game of his career.

WR Zay Flowers

Flowers had seven catches for 91 yards, including an 8-yard touchdown where he honored Ravens legend Jacoby Jones. Flowers had a few big gains on Sunday as he continues to be a favorite target for Lamar Jackson in Year 2.

RT Patrick Mekari

Earlier in the week, Head Coach John Harbaugh called Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby a "game-wreaker," and he looked the part on Sunday. Crosby finished with two sacks and four tackles for loss with most of his work coming against Mekari.

Up Next

The Ravens travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys next Sunday at 4:25 p.m. The Cowboys (1-1) blew out the Cleveland Browns in their season opener but fell to the New Orleans Saints at home in Week 2, 44-19.
