One year since Pirri was named honorary Real Madrid president
On this day one year ago, José Martínez Pirri was appointed honorary president of Real Madrid. On 11 November 2023, his name was unanimously approved at the club's Extraordinary General Assembly, which was held at the Real Madrid City basketball pavilion.
During the event, Florentino Pérez dedicated a few words to Pirri: “For Real Madrid, he is an indisputable person to whom all the values of Real Madrid are associated. One of those great names who have enriched the history of our club. He was a player, head of the club's medical services and general sporting director of Real Madrid. He has been everything at this club and has passed on to many generations his dedication, his commitment, his humility, his exemplary conduct and a lifetime of defending our shirt.”
Pirri joined Real Madrid in 1964, aged just 19. He spent 16 seasons at the club, winning the club's sixth European Cup, 10 league titles and 4 Copa de España crowns. He played 561 official matches and scored 172 goals. He was also the first player to receive the Laureate Award from Santiago Bernabéu.
