Remembrance Day will affect businesses, services and early voting in Nova Scotia on Monday, Nov. 11.

Under Nova Scotia's Remembrance Day Act, some retail businesses must be closed Nov. 11, including malls, big-box stores and grocery stores. There are a few exceptions to the act, including drugstores, gas stations and retail stores with no more than three employees working at any one time.

Remembrance Day ceremonies are organized by the Royal Canadian Legion. Details on nearby ceremonies for Monday can be found on its website.

Remembrance Day parades

Those looking to attend a Remembrance Day parade in the municipality have several options.

The downtown Halifax Remembrance Day parade begins at 10 a.m. at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic parking lot and ends at noon. The parade will move right onto Lower Water Street, left on George Street, left on Hollis Street, left on Sackville Street, left back to Lower Water Street and ends back at the museum.

The Spryfield Remembrance Day parade begins at 10:40 a.m. and ends at 10:55 a.m. The parade begins at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Herring Cove Road, turns right on Herring Cove Road, left onto Sussex Street and finishes at the Spryfield Legion at 7 Sussex Street. 

The Cole Harbour Remembrance Day parade begins at Cole Harbour District High School at 10:30 a.m. It turns right on Chameau Crescent, right on Forest Hills Parkway and right into Cole Harbour Place, where a service will be held until 11:30 a.m. The parade will continue through the same route, finishing at Cole Harbour District High School.

The Waverley Remembrance Day parade begins at 10:45 a.m. and finishes at 11 a.m. It begins at 2145 Rocky Lake Drive, turns left onto Rocky Lake Drive and finishes at the Waverley Legion.

The Lower Sackville Remembrance Day parade begins at 10:40 a.m. and ends at noon. The parade will begin at the Cobequid Road transit terminal, proceed down Memory Lane and return the same route, finishing at Cobequid Road transit terminal.

The municipality says drivers should anticipate traffic delays in the areas where the parades are happening.

Early voting

Elections Nova Scotia has adjusted returning office and community poll hours for Monday.

Hours for early voting on Monday are 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Notices will be posted at the affected early voting locations to ensure that hours of operation on Nov. 11 are displayed. The Elections Nova Scotia website will be updated and the public call centre notified.

Groceries Walmart will be closed on Monday. Sobeys will be closed on Monday. Atlantic Superstore will be closed on Monday. Costco will be closed on Monday. Shoppers Drug Mart will have different hours at different branches. Check their website for details. Gateway Meat Market will be open. NSLC NSLC locations will be closed on Monday, though some agency stores could be open. Halifax Public Libraries

All Halifax Public Libraries locations will be closed on Monday.

Halifax Transit

Halifax Transit will operate on its holiday schedule on Monday.

Municipal recreation facilities

Most municipal recreation facilities will be closed on Monday. Check with individual facilities to confirm operating hours.

Waste collection

No garbage, organics or recyclables will be collected on Monday.

The Otter Lake Waste Management Facility will be closed on Monday.

The Household Special Waste Depot will be closed on Monday but will be open on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Schools

All public schools in the province will be closed on Monday.

Canada Post

There is no collection or delivery of mail on Monday.

Banks

All banks will be closed on Monday.

Parking

On-street parking will be free on Monday, but motorists must abide by other posted signs.
