Roosters vs Tigers

Roosters enforcer Jared Waerea-Hargreaves could miss next week’s do-or-die clash against the Rabbitohs after being involved in two incidents, one of which put him in the sin bin, during his side’s win over the Tigers.

The Roosters were well in control and cruising to a victory up 26-8 when Waerea-Hargreaves shot out of the line and collected Tigers captain Apisai Koroisau’s head with the top of his chest.

The hit started a fracas between Tigers and Roosters players, more specifically Stefano Utoikamanu and Waerea-Hargreaves, with cameras catching the latter headbutt the young Wests forward.

“You’ve taken out the kicker late and made contact with the head. You are in the bin,” referee Todd Smith said to Waerea-Hargreaves on the field.

Both incidents are likely to attract the ire of the NRL judiciary.

Fox League’s Andrew Voss wondered why Waerea-Hargreaves would hit Koroisau high it and risk missing games at a crucial part of the season.

“Oooh geez. The arm’s swinging now,” Voss said

“Jared, you are leading by 18.”

Incoming Tigers coach and former NZ teammate of Waerea-Hargreaves Benji Marshall said the front-rower “got what he deserved.”

“It’s hard for Jared. I know him pretty well, he’s got a pretty big head. That’s footy,” Marshall said in his post-match press conference.

“Jared’s one of those players that crosses the line and he turns into this beast and demon on the field and plays on the edge

“I’ve been in a team with him and you love having those blokes on your team but I thought he crossed the line tonight, especially with the hit. He got what he deserved.”
