Roosters vs Wests Tigers

The Roosters have delivered an impressive 40-6 victory to down the Tigers, with all of Trent Robinson’s Origin stars backing up.

In Robinson’s 300th game as an NRL coach, he decided to back up Angus Crichton, Spencer Leniu, Connor Watson and Lindsay Collins from Game II as the Tricolours dismantled Benji Marshall’s men who had two players sent to the sin bin.

Skipper Api Koroisau was the first of the men given their marching orders for a lifting tackle, while Adam Doueihi followed him after a hip drop tackle.

But the biggest news out of the clash came after gun centre Joey Manu suffered a suspected fractured hand in the first half, leaving the field ahead of scans on Monday morning.

The first four-pointer of the evening came from Dominic Young, flying down the wing to score before he added a second to his tally only two minutes later.

The next player to cross the white line was Terrell May, who broke the line like an outside back before diving over to score.

Luke Keary then put the finishing touches on a dominant first half, holding a 20-0 lead going into the break in a strong position.

From there, Robinson’s side continued their assault, with Daniel Tupou scoring in the 48th minute before superstar fullback James Tedesco got in on the action.

He flew onto a Naufahu Whyte offload, carrying several Tigers defenders with him over the line in impressive fashion.

His four-pointer sparked a flurry of tries, with Victor Radley the next to score after a full-field break before a moment of brilliance from Luke Keary.

After yet another break, the gun five-eighth spotted winger Tupou unmarked and found him with a pinpoint kick to reach the 40-point mark.

Young gun Fonua Pole was able to get a four-pointer on the board to round out the clash, but it was a consolation try for the Tigers.

WHAT WE LEARNED

CHICKEN WINGS

Roosters coach Trent Robinson celebrated his 300th game in charge with yet another win over the Tigers, with his towering wingers having a field day against their inexperienced rivals.

Daniel Tupou fired an early warning shot but had his try disallowed for obstruction, but he didn’t have to wait long with the former rep star scoring twice to equal Mark Gasnier’s record with 21 tries against the Tigers.

It looked at one stage like the Roosters would rack up 50 points as Dom Young bagged a quick double and Terrell May powered his way over to make it three tries in six minutes in the driving rain at Allianz Stadium.

TEDDY SHINES IN MILESTONE GAME

It wasn’t just Robinson celebrating a milestone game, but Roosters captain James Tedesco as well.

Tedesco played in his 150th game as a Rooster and was the best on the field.

In what was a complete performance, Tedesco finished with 215 running metres, nine tackle busts and a try.

In addition, he also set up two tries with some slick ball play to break the hearts of the club he made his NRL debut for and played 90 games with before moving to the Roosters in 2018.

NOT SO API DAYS

They were gritty in their win over the Titans and then celebrated a tremendous victory over the Raiders, but the party is over for the Tigers who have slumped to the bottom of the table.

Their attack lacked any creativity, their defence was poor at times, but it was their ill-discipline that will frustrate Benji Marshall the most after they were reduced to 11 men at one stage in the second half after Api Koroisau and Doueihi were sin binned.

Koroisau was sent from the field for 10 minutes for a lifting tackle on Lindsay Collins having been placed on report for dropping his knees in a tackle on the prop in the previous set.

Doueihi joined his skipper in the sin bin for a hip-drop tackle on Young, while John Bateman was later placed on report for a high shot on Angus Crichton as they dropped below Parramatta on for and against.
