Days after finalizing her move to London and becoming a Blue, Sonia Bompastor, Lyon’s former head coach, can start prepping for the new season in the best possible way.

The Matilda star, and one of Chelsea’s key players, Sam Kerr has decided to extend her stay with the club and signed a new contract extension.

It Was Only A Matter Of Time Before An Agreement Was Reached

Last January, it was reported that Sam Kerr had agreed a deal in principle to extend her contract at Chelsea.

When asked about Kerr’s contract situation back in January, the former Chelsea head coach, Hayes showed no worry.

“With the announcement [of Kerr’s injury] the focus for Sam right now is on rehab.”

The newly-appointed USWNT manager continued, “I’m sure when the time is right to discuss her future that will come from Sam and the club, but Sam loves Chelsea and Chelsea loves Sam, so I think that’s the most important thing to say on that front.”

Pranking The Fans

Minutes before announcing that Sam Kerr is renewing, Chelsea FC shared a video on its social media accounts in which the Australian addresses the fans.

“I didn’t know how to have this conversation with you guys, but I think it’s just best saying it. after four years, it’s really hard to sum up how I feel. My time at Chelsea has been unforgettable. Lots of great memories made, lifelong dreams, winning trophies.”

Minutes later, after testing the fans’ reaction, Chelsea shared a second video in which Kerr confirmed staying for two additional years.

“What’s all this? I’m not leaving!” then finishes the video with a question to the Chelsea fans.

“Did you guys really I was gonna end at 99 goals?"

As part of the contract extension announcement, Chelsea's Stamford Bridge and Kingsmeadow have been temporarily renamed in honour of their star forward.

Stamford Bridge has been renamed "Samford Bridge" and Kingsmeadow "Kerrsmeadow".

A sign will be installed at the Britannia Gate Gate entrance to Stamford Bridge from Thursday until Sunday.
