Sydney Roosters NRL halfback Sandon Smith will face court after being charged with negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
Smith, 21, will attend Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court on Friday for the first mention of the charge.
The NRL was informed of the matter on Thursday.
The charge carries a maximum prison term of nine months or $2,200 in fines.
Smith made his NRL debut for the Roosters during the 2023 season.
He played 14 NRL matches this year, helping the Roosters reach the preliminary finals.
Smith looms as a crucial fixture of the Roosters' side for next year, set to take charge of their attack following Luke Keary's exit from the club and Sam Walker's injury.
He is expected to start the year alongside Chad Townsend in the halves, with Walker not likely to return until months into the season.
