Big Bash League: Perth Scorchers fans create new Boxing Day ...
Perth fans have lapped up festive Big Bash, turning out in droves in the biggest Boxing Day BBL crowd ever.
Optus Stadium was awash in orange as a record 42,226 fans piled in to watch the five-time champions take on the Melbourne Renegades.
The Scorchers’ championship banners had to be removed from the top deck to ensure everyone could get a seat; the crowd was also the biggest at a non-final Scorchers clash.
Not a single section was missing people or orange as the crowd made their presence felt.
In scenes very similar to cricket in India, the Scorchers faithful cheered every run during their batting innings, leaving their chairs for every six as stand-in skipper Aaron Hardie and Josh Inglis put on a show.
Near misses drew big oos as they rode every bump.
They were left flat as Perth fell apart batting first, bowled out for 162 after a devastating collapse.
However, they were picked back up by an incredible set from entertainment star DJ Luude in a 10-minute innings break extravaganza, complete with fireworks and a light show.
English import Zak Crawley labelled Optus Stadium “one of the best” he’d played at on the mic for Channel 7.
