Officers have arrested a 36-year-old Wellesley Islands man following an incident in Cairns City last night, September 10.

It will be alleged that around 11pm the man ran after two other men along Shields Street while in possession of a knife and making threats.

The two men were able to notify City Safe officers who called police, who then were able to take the man into custody.

He has since been charged with two counts of assault, and one count of going armed so as to cause fear.

He was refused bail and will appear before Cairns Magistrates Court today, September 11.

Public disorder, Cairns City

A 28-year-old Manoora man has been charged after an incident in Cairns City overnight, September 10.

It will be alleged at 9pm the man had been involved in an altercation with a 52-year-old man on Shields Street.

The Manoora man has been charged with one count of public nuisance.

He was also issued with a 30-day banning notice from the Cairns Safe Night Precinct.

He is due to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court October 1.

Traffic offences, Manoora

A 23-year-old Edge Hill man has been issued a series of traffic infringement notices after being intercepted by officers from Cairns Highway Patrol yesterday afternoon, September 10.

It will be alleged the man failed to stop when officers activated the lights and sirens on their vehicle in Manoora and proceeded to drive to his home address in Edge Hill with the police vehicle following.

He has been issued with infringement notices for drive unregistered vehicle, drive uninsured vehicle, fail to display P plates, and fail to stop vehicle without reasonable excuse.

The infringement notices totalled an amount of $2257, and he has accumulated 2 demerit points.

Appeal for information, Marine incident, Cairns inlet

Water Police Cairns are appealing for witnesses following a crash involving two boats in the Trinity Inlet on Sunday, September 1.

Initial investigations indicate around 11am, a commercial jetboat struck a 4.6m aluminium boat on the southeastern side of Admiralty Island opposite the entrance of Redbank Creek.

The three people on the 4.6m aluminium boat, sustained minor injuries.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, including a vessel that was anchored nearby or anyone who may have relevant information or CCTV/dashcam footage to come forward.

Investigations are ongoing.
