Maryland Announces Leadership Change With Women's Soccer ...
COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland Athletics has parted ways with women's soccer head coach Meghan Ryan Nemzer after leading the program since 2022, as announced on Thursday.
Michael Marchiano will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of this season beginning with tonight's home game against Penn State.
"We thank Meg for her service in leading the women's soccer program since 2022," said Damon Evans, Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics. "We wish her well in her future endeavors. Michael Marchiano will take over leading the program for the remainder of the season before we conduct a national search for the permanent head coach of the women's soccer program."
Nemzer compiled a 10-25-14 record in leading the program since the 2022 season.
Marchiano, a University of Maryland 2009 alum, joined the Terrapins' women's coaching staff prior to this season. Marchiano was previously the head coach of the Drexel Dragons men's soccer team from 2020-22, becoming the first coach since the 1980's to maintain a winning record. In his first season as head coach, Marchiano guided the Dragons to a 6-3-2 record and their first conference tournament appearance in seven seasons. In each of his three seasons at Drexel, the Dragons reached the CAA Semifinals. In his playing days, Marchiano played in 59 games at Maryland from 2005-08 under head coach Sasho Cirovski.
