Sports Media and Business Academy for High School Students ...
The Sports Media and Business Academy, a new pre-college program through the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies in conjunction with the Center for Sports Media, will run for the first time this summer. The program will provide high school students a comprehensive exploration of the dynamic and lucrative sports industry.
The course will be held from July 15 to August 2, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Seton Hall’s South Orange Campus.
The Academy will afford high school students the opportunity to gain insights into the intricate business aspects of sports, exploring diverse topics such as growth opportunities, financial models and innovation. It will also cover broader societal aspects and impacts of sports related to amateurism, race, gender equality and ethics.
Some of the course’s objectives include: viewing sports as a growing business and understanding its history, and working in groups to come up with innovative ideas regarding business and presenting those ideas.
The Sports Media and Business Academy will be taught by B.J. Schecter, the Interim Executive Director of Seton Hall’s Center for Sports Media. He brings decades of sports media industry experience and a vast network of high-profile industry executives, some of whom will be invited to share their insights with students during the program.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for high school students who want to learn more about the sports industry in a top-notch academic environment," said Schecter. "I taught a similar program at Wharton the last three summers and it was a phenomenal experience for the students and for me. I’m excited to bring this program to Seton Hall. Not only will students get the experience of a lifetime, they’ll also be able to hear from and interact with leaders in the industry and make connections."
