Squid Game Will Return and Conclude With an Epic Season 3

AFTER MORE THAN three years, we've finally been treated to another violent, tense, and devastating round of Squid Game. This time, though, Netflix's smash hit show isn't catching anyone by surprise; the action-packed story with high stakes (and even higher critique of capitalism) arrives with major expectations to follow up on the success of the first season, and a huge, built-in audience eagerly awaiting what will happen when Gi-hun, also known as Player 456, re-enters the game.

The thing about Netflix shows, though, is that by design we're all done with them almost as quickly as we've started them. We waited three whole years for more Squid Game, and just like that, we're done with season 2's seven episodes, and now we're waiting again. What gives!

Well, there's good news; this is not going to be a Stranger Things situation. Squid Game's story will continue, and we have a definitive timeline—the story will continue next year. Hallelujah! Yes! Back in July, Netflix confirmed that not only will there be a third season of Squid Game, but the wait will be significantly shorter—it's expected to debut in 2025, according to Variety.

Series star Lee Jung-jae also confirmed in a game on The Tonight Show that the show will be back for season 3.

However, there's another big detail we have about Squid Game season 3: it will conclude the show.

“I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for season 2 and share the news of season 3, the final season,” the show's director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk wrote earlier this year in a letter to fans. “The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale with season 3, which will be brought to you next year.”
