41' The second half is underway

Daly Cherry-Evans is ragdolled by Liam Martin and the Maroons want a penalty, but no such luck.

The first set ends with a brilliant catch by Tabuai-Fidow over To'o, but he can't get a Lindsay Collins-esque pass away and the set ends harmlessly.

Queensland's immense defence vs NSW's hapless attack — the Blues really look lost when they're forced to come up with something on the Maroons' goal line. Jarome Luai looks frantic, Damien Cook isn't a left centre, and there seems to miscommunication and misdirection (the bad kind) across the park. But it'd be wrong to not give any credit to Queensland for that. They just keep answering questions in defence, even after that huge Stephen Crichton break.

Blues' selections — With Nicho Hynes and Matt Burton not picked, an injury to Tom Trbojevic wasn't what NSW needed, but was also not exactly unheard of. He's had more than a few over the years and the Blues experienced a similar thing in the 2020 decider, when James Tedesco was knocked out and they had to play Isaah Yeo in the centres. Hynes or Burton would've been such a blessing in that moment, but no such luck.

Daly Cherry-Evans — He came up with one of the greatest State of Origin tackles in history to track down Stephen Crichton, then immediately made the break to set up the Maroons' second try. His kicking game has also been basically perfect. If Queensland win this, he'll be tough to beat for player of the game.

The Maroons are on top of the Blues at every turn, but somehow only have a signifcant lead thanks to a very contentious second try.

Queensland's kicking has been superb, their defence looks impenetrable, and Daly Cherry-Evans pulled off one of the greatest Origin tackles I've ever seen.

The Blues will once again be ruing the decision to not to pick anyone on the bench who can play in the backs, because their attack to the left looks shot to pieces with Damien Cook playing centre for Tom Trbojevic.

In saying that, they're attack right isn't too crash hot, and that's Stephen Crichton and Brian To'o, so the injuries aren't entirely to blame. They just look frazzled, especially on Queensland's line.

40' Queensland holds them out

Absolutely aimless attack from the Blues in the redzone once again and the Mroons hang on to their 10-0 lead going into half-time.

39' Another penalty gives Queensland one set to defend

Cameron Munster's bomb is high and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow puts Brian To'o under immense pressure, but the Panthers winger aces the test with a clean take.

And another penalty helps the Blues into the Maroons' half for their final shot of the half.

37' Lindsay Collins is the hero again

The big prop absolutely bodies Jarome Luai, knocking the ball loose, and Harry Grant flies in to gather the ball.

It's ruled a knock-on from Luai. Enormous play from Collins, backing up his flying take late in Game I.

36' Reece Walsh gives NSW a chance

The Maroons were spinning it right to try to get out of trouble, but Reece Walsh has dropped it cold, and the Blues get a full set inside Queensland's 30m zone.

Murray Taulagi hits back for Queensland off almost certainly a forward pass

The Maroons break down the right as that man Daly Cherry-Evans once again latched onto a Pat Carrigan offload and made it to NSW's 20m line, then they spun it left and David Fifita popped a short ball to Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow who found Taulagi, who ran it in under the posts.

But the pass from Fifita looked very forward. He was hit as he passed it, which made it look worse, but it was definitely forward.

Alas, the try stands and Queensland leads 10-0 after 35 minutes.

32' DCE pulls off a miracle try-saver

Stephen Crichton scooped up a chip on the right and broke free with no-one in front of him, but Queensland captain Daly Cherry-Evans somehow tracked him down 10 metres out. Amazing play by the skipper.

And the Blues botch another play out to the left as Dmaien Cook is beamed by Jarome Luai's short ball. They're paying the price for not picking any real utilities yet again, just as happened when James Tedesco was KO'd in the 2020 decider.

28' The Blues are bobbling everthing

Luai flashes some fancy footwork and threatens but it's closed down by Fifita.

Six more after a shocking final-tackle option for NSW. Moses shanked his kick, then the tap-back almost died with James Tedesco, but Ashley Klein, almost it seemed reacting to the Blues' signals, says Reece Walsh touched the loose ball.

Then they break down the left and Damien Cook is shut down at left centre again. And eventually there's a changeover as the ball is lobbed over the right sideline on the last.

27' NSW get another penalty out of their half

David Fifita and Lindsay Collins hang on in a tackle for too long and the Blues get a penalty on their 20m line, so again they'll get into Queensland's half.

25' The Blues bomb one

Oh my word, they absolutely had the numbers out left, but Damien Cook was at left centre and got rushed by the defence, and Josh Addo-Carr was  on the charge expecting a grubber from Jarome Luai. The ball dies with Cook. What a mess. Just miscommunication.

24' Moses wants a miracle

That's Mitch Moses, playing off the cuff. He looked up and saw no fullback at home, so he chipped on the second tackle after a set restart.

Cameron Munster got back to make it a dropout, but only just.

23' The Maroons miss out

Jeremiah Nanai slid wide to right centre and broke through the line, but his flick pass to Xavier Coates was just too far in front of him. That would've put him in a match race with Addo-Carr. We all want to see that.

22' The Blues are putting Coates in the air

This is an interesting tactic from Jarome Luai, intentionally putting Josh Addo-Carr into an aerial contest with Xavier Coates. It doesn't come off, unsurprisingly.

21' Reece Walsh gives Billy Slater a heartattack

The Mitch Moses chip came in and Walsh got back to gather, then took a couple of steps INTO his own in-goal, then did a weird hop before surrendering.

He's an experience to watch.

20' The Maroons find the grass with a bomb again

This one was inches from going out on the full, but it's cleaned up by Tedesco and the Blues have to go 90 metres.

18' Tino diving on everything

The Titans' captain has a mop out there, and I'm not talking about his hair. In successive sets - once in attack and once off  Blues' kick tapped back - he's been there to clean up the loose ball.

16' Queensland's goal-line defence under assault

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow comes up with a big shot on Mitch MOses. Then he and Murray Taulagi shut down the right-side shift to Brian To'o, then Holmes stops Jarome Luai, then Cameron Munster gets back to clean up a grubber into the in-goal from Moses. Frantic, but they hold on.

15' The Blues trucking it off their line again

Not to keep harping on it, but that's another DCE kick that turned Tedesco around and found the grass. He may have got a little lucky with the bounce, but still great placement.

Hudson Young and Tom Flegler get into a bit of push and shove after a high shot, and that's a NSW penalty. So they get some field position. What can they do with it?
