The matchup for Super Bowl 57 is set, as the Eagles and Chiefs will compete to decide the champion for the NFL's 2022 season.
That both teams made it to the Super Bowl shouldn't be a surprise. They were the No. 1 seeds in their respective conferences and have two of the top MVP candidates league-wide in Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes.
The Eagles won their first eight games of the season and have been one of the league's most consistent teams during the 2022 season and 2023 postseason. They are 16-1 overall in games that Hurts has started, and that includes their 38-7 and 31-7 playoff wins over the Giants and 49ers respectively.
The Chiefs, meanwhile, were able to beat the Bengals 23-20 in the AFC Championship Game thanks to a 45-yard field goal by Harrison Butker with three seconds remaining. Mahomes performed well in the contest, throwing for 326 yards and two touchdowns despite playing through an ankle injury.
The win was a critical one for Mahomes, who had lost in his previous three games against Joe Burrow and the Bengals. Mahomes enjoyed a terrific 2022 season too, throwing for 5,250 yards, 41 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while posting a 14-3 record.
This Super Bowl will be notable in that it will feature a battle between brothers on opposite sidelines. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Eagles center Jason Kelce will each be searching for their second Super Bowl ring as they do battle at State Farm Stadium.
Additionally, Andy Reid will be looking to beat his former team to earn his second career Super Bowl title.
