Membrey goals

Tim Membrey has pulled in a strong mark and kicked his first goal of the day.

The Saints are finishing this term strongly while the Roos are starting to lose their cool a little or have decision go against them like the out of bounds on the full decision before Membrey’s goal.

Saints 26, Roos 20 with 42 seconds left in Q1.

Hayes ties it up

Jack Hayes is back in the side today and he has pushed forward, marked and kicked a goal on his return.

The Saints clearly love having him back in the side.

King goals for Saints

The Roos can’t afford any unforced errors but that is what happened on the last play as they threw Saints forward Max King to the ground off the ball and a free kick was called 20m in front of goal.

King kicked the major. Costly one for the Roos.

Roos leap into lead

Saints defender Jimmy Webster is back today after serving his ban for a bump that knocked out Roos’ star Jy Simpkin in a pre-season game.

He just made a horrible turnover by foot in the defensive 50m and was punished by Tom Powell, who marked and goaled.

Wilson fires for Saints

Wingman Darcy Wilson has pushed forward and taken a mark in the forward line before kicking the opening goal.

He has been a super fit for the Saints, who have been right on top early on at Marvel Stadium. However, Wardlaw responded immediately after the restart, running onto a pass in the Roos’ forward line and booting his first goal of the day.

Gulden praises Swans after victory

Swans star Errol Gulden spoke to Fox Footy post game.

“To grind out a good win in tough conditions – we are really pleased,” Gulden told Fox Footy.

“It was about our entries [early on] and going to the shallow end as we couldn’t set the ground up to defend it and get repeat entries.

“They came out firing but that was a good last three quarters.

Isaac Heeney, Brodie Grundy, Will Hayward and a host of other Swans led from the front in this game.

The big issues for the Giants will be around player availability with Tom Green (ankle) subbed out in the first half and needing scans tomorrow while athletic utility Callum M. Brown faces a potential suspension for his bump on Tom McCartin which forced the key defender out of the game with a concussion.
