Trains delayed across Sydney after rail breaks at Central
There are delays across the Sydney rail network this morning with urgent track repairs underway at Central.
Sydney Trains posted a photo of a broken rail to its X account this morning, warning of delays across "various lines".
There are travel alerts in place for the Inner West and Leppington line, Airport and South line, and Bankstown line.
Transport for NSW rail operations director Jas Tumber told 2GB the repair operation was a complex one.
"Because it is a significant broken rail we are having to cut a section of the rail out and replace it this morning, which as you can imagine logistically is very complex to do whilst we're still operating the network," he said.
Commuters are already packing stations to the brim, with travellers unable to embark at Ashfield due to trains arriving packed.
People are urged to allow extra travel time and to pay attention to announcements and timetable changes at stations.
Some services may be delayed, while others while change their stoppage route or embark from different platforms.
