2024 Herald Sun Shield teams of the year captains: Zak Johnson (Parade – Senior Boys), Zoe Samuel (Caulfield Grammar – Senior Girls), Jack Massey (St Kevin’s – Intermediate Boys) and Zarah Markby (Rowville – Intermediate Girls)

AFL Victoria has released teams of the year for the four Herald Sun Shield division one boys and girls competitions played in 2024:

Senior Boys Division OneSenior Girls Division OneIntermediate Boys (Year 10) Division OneIntermediate Girls (Year 10) Division One

The teams of the year recognise players who produced outstanding performances for their school sides during the competition, which puts the best teams from different school associations across the state against each other.

Parade College have been acknowledged for their dominance and second-straight title with 10 payers selected in the Senior Boys Division One Team of the Year, with their captain Zak Johnson named skipper following his best-on-ground display through the midfield in the final. Parade defeated Padua College in the semi-final and then Emmanuel College, Warrnambool to win the title, after coming through as the best side from the Associated Catholic Colleges (ACC).

In the Intermediate Boys, premiers St Kevin’s are similarly well represented, with nine players picked after coming through a Play-In game and defeating Assumption College, defending champions Parade College and Western Heights College, Geelong on their way to the title. St Kevin’s earned its place in the Herald Sun Shield as the best year 10 side from the Associated Public Schools (APS) competition. St Kevin’s midfielder Jack Massey was named captain of the Team of the Year.

Melbourne Girls Grammar, representing Girls Sport Victoria (GSV) stamped themselves as the dominant force in schoolgirl football with back-to-back Senior Girls Division One titles, beating Caulfield Grammar in the decider for the second-straight year. Nine Melbourne Girls players are in the Team of the Year, with Caulfield Grammar midfielder Zoe Samuel named captain.

Intermediate Girls Division One champions Rowville Secondary College, the School Sport Victoria (SSV) representative, also have nine players picked in the all-star side, including their captain Zarah Markby who was selected as captain of the Team of the Year. Rowville defeated Carey Grammar in the final.
