Congress begins celebrations in Gandhi Bhavan

Congress cadre begin celebrations at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad.

The Congress has been leading in the Telangana Assembly elections. As of 11:30 a.m. the BRS has taken the second place with 37 seats followed by BJP with leads in 9 seats. The AIMIM and CPI has been leading in one seat each.

Congress candidate Mynampally Hanumanth Rao trails

As on round 2 of counting, Congress candidate Mynampally Hanumanth Rao trails. BRS candidate takes the lead and BJP has been pushed to the third spot. 

After publicly criticising BRS leader Harish Rao, he shifted to Congress. His son is contesting as Congress candidate from Medak constituency. He is a strong critic of both KTR and Hairsh Rao. Mr. Hanumanth Rao is a strong candidate from the constituency. However, he is currently trailing.

BJP’s Eatala Rajender from Huzurabad trails

BJP nominee and sitting MLA from Huzurabad Eatala Rajender was trailing in the third place in the high stakes contest. BRS Kaushik Reddy is leading by a margin of 2379 votes over Congress party’s nominee Voditala Pranav at the end of third round.

Eatala Rajender, once a close aide of Chandrashekar Rao, switched to the BJP giving the saffron party a much-needed boost in the State. However, his entry created ripples in the State BJP unit as some leaders felt new entrants were getting higher ranks in the party. The Central leadership stepped in to create unity in the party before the elections.

Eatala Rajender was a prominent leader in BRS. Mr. Rajender was the Health Minister during the pandemic. He has quit the party and the Ministry. He contested from the BJP banner in the Huzurabad by-election and won. 

Apart from Huzurabad, he is also contesting against BRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao from Gajwel constituency in this elections.

Congress’s A. Revanth Reddy leads in Kamareddy; KCR pushed to third place

After four rounds of counting votes in Kamareddy constituency, BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has been pushed to the third place in the race and Congress’s chief A. Revanth Reddy takes lead by winning 13565 votes. The Congress has been leading overall followed by the BRS party in the Telangana Assembly elections, according to the ECI site.

BRS leads in Siddipet

BRS senior leader T. Harish Rao is leading in the Siddipet constituency. As of round 1 T. Harish Rao has secured 6294 votes followed by Congress with 666 votes and the BJP’s Dudi Srikanth Reddy gets 615 votes. Mr. Rao is known as a troubleshooter in the party. He is the State’s Finance and Health Minister.

BJP’s Bandi Sanjay trails in Karimnagar, BRS’s Gangula Kamalakar takes lead

Gangula Kamalakar of the BRS takes lead by 2405 votes over his nearest rival BJP’s Bandi Sanjay at the end of the third round in Karimnagar Assembly constituency. 

Bandi Sanjay Kumar is Karimnagar MP and former State chief of BJP. Ahead of polls, BJP central leadership removed him and appointed Kishan Reddy as the State party chief.

Spotlight on Sircilla, the State’s textile hub

BRS’s K.T. Rama Rao maintains lead over Congress party’s K.K. Mahender Reddy with a slender margin at the end of the second round in Sircilla constituency. 

All eyes are on the key Assembly constituency of Sircilla, the textile hub of Telangana, formerly known as “Sirishala” meaning wealth hub, in the bygone era.

Situated on the banks of the Manair river, Sircilla earned the dubious distinction as the “epicentre” of weavers’ suicides” due to crisis in power loom sector in the late 1990s and early 2000s in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh.

Leading status in Telangana

The Congress has been leading in the early trends followed by the BRS party in the Telangana Assembly elections, according to the ECI site. 

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner and District Election Officer Ronald Rose inspected several counting centres in the city to monitor arrangements for the counting. Speaking to the media, Mr. Rose said that the postal ballot was counted first at 8 a.m., followed by the electronic voting machines counting at 9 a.m.

A pre-poll survey by Aaraa Poll Strategies Private Limited says the Congress is set to emerge as the single largest party with its least predicted number of seats very close to the magic figure. It predicted defeat of the Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao in the hands of his rival from Bharatiya Janata Party K. Venkata Ramana Reddy in Kamareddy, though he could win Gajwel.

As of 9:55 a.m., the Congress party has been leading in 31 seats followed by the BRS in 21 seats. 

Earlier today, the BRS took lead, however the congress went ahead the party, that has been ruling the State since its formation.

Telangana saw 454% spike in seizures compared to 2018

An increase of 454% was seen in overall seizures during this election season in Telangana.

Official figures revealed that cash, freebies, narcotics and metals worth ₹469.63 crore were seized this year, as opposed to ₹103 crore in 2018. Sharing the comparative report on seizures, State DGP Anjani Kumar said that from October 9 to December 1, officials registered 11,859 FIRs.

Three layer security at centres, says CEO of Telangana

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana Vikas Raj assured that all arrangements have been made in order to conduct the counting smoothly.

At the counting centre, the inner layer of the security will be taken care of by the Central forces while the outer layer will see the reserved police of the State. 

The State police will control the third layer of security at the centres, including the vehicular traffic around it. As many as 40 companies of Central Armed Police Forces have been deployed to guard the strong rooms. Vikas Raj said that the EVMs were sealed and kept in total security with CCTV surveillance in the presence of the candidates or their party representatives.

The CEO said there will be 1,766 counting tables with 14 counting tables each for every constituency. Six constituencies with more than 500 polling stations will be covered with 28 tables.

Each table will have one counting supervisor, one micro-observer and two counting assistants. For counting postal ballots 131 returning officers will be deployed. This time, more postal ballots have been polled in some constituencies, and with many candidates, the process may stretch a bit.

DKS told to keep flock together

In the wake of exit polls predicting an edge to the Congress in the Telangana Assembly elections, the Congress high command has sent Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar along with three other Ministers — B. Nagendra, N.S. Boseraju and B. Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan — to Hyderabad as a precautionary measure to monitor the situation on Sunday. 

Mr. Shivakumar has been asked to keep all party leaders together and on the same page to prevent poaching of party legislators by the BRS.

On Telangana elections verdict day, Congress leader Mallu Ravi in Hyderabad confidently says, ”Congress will win 75-95 seats in the state. BRS might get 15-20 seats. BJP might get 6-7 seats.”

In the previous Assembly elections, the party had won 19 seats while the BRS won the polls with 88 seats.

Assembly elections | Four States gear up for counting of votes on December 3

The ​outcome of the Assembly elections in the four crucial States of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana​ will be known on December 3, giving a peep into the possible political permutations and combinations in store for the Lok Sabha election in 2024.

The counting of votes will begin at 8 a.m. for 230 seats in ​Madhya Pradesh​, 90 seats in ​Chhattisgarh​, 119 seats in ​Telangana​ and 199 seats in ​Rajasthan​, where the election to one seat was postponed owing to the death of a candidate. The counting will be held amid tight security and only people holding valid passes will be allowed to enter the counting centres, election officials said.
