No. 7 Volleyball stays unbeaten in SEC play with Georgia win
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 7 Texas Volleyball outlasted Georgia in four sets, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-18, at Gregory Gymnasium on Sunday.
The Longhorns (12-3, 7-0) finished with a season-high 16 total blocks, led by another career-high 11 from Marianna Singletary. Texas also tied a season-high with eight service aces, led by three from Devin Kahahawai.
Madisen Skinner finished with a team-high 12 kills, while Jenna Wenaas posted a double-double of 11 kills and 10 digs. Kahahawai finished with 10 kills, to go with her three aces and seven total blocks.
Singletary posted her second career double-digit block match with a career high 11 total blocks and added seven kills on just 10 swings. She tied her career high with nine block assists.
The Longhorns jumped out to a fast start in the first set with a pair of 5-0 runs to grab a 20-10 lead. Georgia then stormed all the way back to win the set, going on a 15-3 run to win it 25-23.
Texas got out to another big lead in the second set but this time the Longhorns held on for a 25-19 win. The Longhorns hit .407 in the second set and held the Bulldogs to a .133 percentage.
Georgia led nearly the entire third set and held a 20-18 lead before Texas finished the set on a 7-0 run to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Longhorns had six total blocks in the third set to hold off the Bulldogs.
The Longhorns were able to close out the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth set. The set was knotted at 14-all before Texas put the match away with an 11-4 run.
Texas will continue its five-match homestand against Texas A&M on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
