Warning: Spoilers ahead for the third season of FX’s “The Bear.”

Over three seasons, viewers have seen Sydney Adamu (Ayo Edebiri) transform from a struggling chef to the CDC of The Bear. However, something feels off with Sydney this season, and she’s presented with a seemingly better job offer elsewhere. Will she take it and leave The Bear?

At the start of Season 3, Syd comforts Carmy after the chaotic Family and Friends night, and he promises never to leave her alone again. Though they appear to be on good terms, Syd is confused when Carmy redoes the entire menu they created together. Additionally, he drafts a list of non-negotiables for The Bear, including changing the menu daily—something they never discussed before.

Sydney is hesitant about the new changes, but Carmy assures her that they will help the restaurant earn a Michelin star. He also presents her with a partnership agreement that details how much of The Bear she will own. All she has to do is sign the document, which proves challenging as she questions her place at The Bear.

In Season 3, Episode 7, Syd moves out of her father’s apartment and leases her own place. She receives a text from Chef Shapiro inviting her for coffee to discuss a new opportunity. With Ever shutting down, he is interested in starting his own restaurant and asks Sydney if she wants to run it. The offer includes a partnership agreement, an $80,000 base salary, and benefits, but he wants things to move quickly. Sydney says she’ll think about it.

Syd rehearses how she’ll tell Carmy about the job offer but struggles to find the right words. That night during service, everything feels off. Carmy angrily shouts demands all evening and gets into altercations with Richie, with Syd caught in the middle. When they are alone after hours, Carmy acknowledges that “tonight was off.” “It’s been off,” she admits, revealing that keeping up with him has been hard.

Sydney is about to tell Carmy about Shapiro’s offer, but at the last minute, she decides it isn’t the right time. Since The Bear will be closed the next night, Carmy invites her to Ever’s funeral service. She initially declines, but Carmy insists on her being there.

By the end of the Season 3 finale, “Forever,” Sydney is more conflicted than ever. She still has not talked to Carmy about the opportunity with Chef Shapiro, but internally, she is struggling with whether she wants to leave The Bear and the people who are part of it.

Earlier in the episode, Sydney attends Ever’s funeral. She sits at a table and listens to stories from established chefs whose paths crossed at Ever. As they discuss good and bad working environments—and bosses—Sydney can’t help but reflect on her current situation with Carmy. He hasn’t listened to or valued her opinions on the menu recently. Not to mention, he’s been constantly angry, and his promises are empty at best.

While Chef Luca and Sydney chat in the kitchen, Chef Shapiro pulls Syd aside. He asks if she had discussed the CDC position with Carmy. She explains that she hasn’t found the right time but assures Shapiro that she’s still interested.

The Ever staff, along with Richie, Sydney, and members of The Bear, gather at Sydney’s apartment for the after-party. Sydney’s night takes an emotional turn when she notices a newspaper clipping of The Bear on her fridge. She runs into the hallway and has a panic attack, overwhelmed by the upcoming choice she must make between staying at The Bear or leaving.

There's a good chance that Sydney will leave to work for Chef Shapiro because of the creative independence he's offering her. As viewers know, working in any restaurant poses challenges, so she might eventually find her way back to The Bear.

With Sydney's future hanging in the balance, viewers will have to wait until Season 4 to learn her decision.
