If there's only one word to describe Courtney and Grant's guest bathroom, it's 'Moderterranean'.
The phrase was coined by the married couple themselves and was used countless times during the week to describe their inspiration as a combination of modern and Mediterranean styles.

Courtney and Grant were hoping to really knock their first room out of the park, especially considering it was a bathroom.
"It's a really central part of the house," Courtney said.
While Grant was adamant that they get this one right because "kitchens and bathrooms are what really sell your house".

According to Grant, "Courtney doesn't look at a price tag".
He might be right considering the couple spent a whopping $35,016 on their guest bathroom. That's 15,000 more than the recommended budget.
Here's hoping that it would pay off for the pair.

Courtney and Grant's first week on The Block was riddled with issues with their builders.
From non-compliant insurances and paperwork to failing to make waterproofing Wednesday, there were a few blunders but the couple took it all in their stride.
"We've made mistakes, builders have made mistakes, there's no doubt," the pair reflected.

By the end of the week, Courtney and Grant delivered a room they were proud of.
"I feel really confident," Courtney beamed.
"I feel like we produced a really nice bathroom. I think the judges are going to like it.

On first impressions, Courtney and Grant had won the judges hearts over almost immediately.
"Now we're talking!" Darren beamed.
"This is Instagrammable!" Marty piped up.

Darren instantly thought House 2's guest bathroom layout was "better" than the previous one they'd seen.
And it seemed Marty agreed labelling the floor plan "amazing".

The judges fell in love with the "incredible materiality" of Courtney and Grant's guest bathroom.
Marty noted the travertine tiles were stunning and appreciated Courtney and Grant's subtle nod to their seaside location.
"I love these handles, they look like beach shells," Marty said.

Like Darren and Marty, Shaynna was immediately impressed with House 2's guest bathroom.
She commended Courtney and Grant for being smart by not tiling their entire bathroom.
"Exactly, save yourself time. They've only tiled halfway and it's more than enough," she said.

Shaynna's praise continued.
"They've put a curve in, they've got a niche. I'm loving the subtle lighting with these beautiful travertine light fittings which I think are fantastic.
"And I think this marble is hot."

So far Courtney and Grant had received only great feedback.
Unfortunately there was a 'but' coming.
Shaynna felt that Courtney and Grant could have made more of an impact and been even more daring with their aesthetics and styling.

While Shaynna felt that overall the room had a great feeling, she thought it was missing that 'wow' factor.
"I myself still want to see more drama," she said.
"I want people to really bring it this year. It's a holiday place, this isn't about being safe."

"There are people coming for holidays that want to be wowed," Shaynna continued.
"I'm loving the neutral palette but the marble is the one hero, you can take it further."

It was this opinion that soon sparked a heated debate between Shaynna and Marty.
As a serious real estate agent, Marty thought that Courtney and Grant had gotten the styling and choices "just right".

"I disagree," Marty began to make his case.
"Think about your buyer, I believe they're coming straight out of the Melbourne CBD.
"Melburnians have a tonal aesthetic and this definitely fits the bill."

Marty continued to campaign for Courtney and Grant's stylistic choices.
"I could pick this room up and place it in a house in Albert Park or South Yarra," he said.
"Any of those buyers that see value in coming to Phillip Island will absolutely gobble this up."

But Shaynna was still convinced that House 2 was playing it just a little bit too safe.
"I don't want to come to Phillip Island and feel like I'm in Melbourne," Shaynna said.
"I want to feel like I'm in Phillip Island, in something that is elevated, classy and has personality."

Shaynna reiterated she was in no way saying Courtney and Grant had entirely missed the mark.
"I'm not saying this is a bad room. I'm saying this is a fantastic room," she clarified.
"But I just don't want to see one Instagrammable moment. I want to see excitement."

The battle continued as Marty remained firm that Courtney and Grant's approach was going to help them make money in the property market.
"Oh we are going to lock horns on this one," Shaynna said.

Thankfully, fence-sitter Darren found a happy middle ground.
"I both agree and disagree with you both," Darren said.
"Drama in a holiday house is really important but so is Instagrammability because it helps you market the house in terms of getting people to rent and stay here."

Darren gave Courtney and Grant a round of applause for finding the right balance between making a statement and appealing to a broad enough market.
