Anne Hathaway is channeling Mia Thermopolis once again by confirming that she is officially on board with the third installment of The Princess Diaries.

Fans of the original franchise can rejoice now that the princess is claiming her seat on the throne as production is underway. On Friday, October 4, Variety reported that Princess Diaries 3 was officially underway with Adele Lim (Crazy Rich Asians, Joyride) in the director's chair.

While the third movie has been in development since 2022, Hathaway has remained fairly coy about whether or not she would officially be joining the cast or if the project was moving forward at all. With all the speculation over the last two years, Hathaway finally broke her silence about the forthcoming film with a video on social media that fits right in.

The actor is shown holding up her fingers to count to 3, signifying the third film, and intercut scenes from the first movie and the second movie. One scene included Hathaway as Mia saying “shut up” along with another of the iconic Julie Andrews also saying “shut up.”

The caption read: “Miracles happen ✨???? Back to Genovia with @adeleblim @disney @somewherepictures. The fairy tale continues.”

“As a diehard fan of the original ‘Princess Diaries,’ I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life,” director Lim said in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”

It's unclear what the third film's plot will include, but it's likely that the story will continue following the 2004 sequel Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement, in which Mia succeeds her grandma to become queen of Genovia and (seemingly) lives happily ever after with her love interest Nicholas — played by Chris Pine. More than 20 years later, fans might see how Mia's life has transformed as a queen. Neither Julie Andrews nor Chirs Pine have been confirmed to return to their roles yet.
