The Suicide Squad trailer featuring a star-studded cast has dropped
WARNING: THE TRAILER ABOVE CONTAINS STRONG LANGUAGE
The Suicide Squad trailer has officially dropped and it’s the perfect amount of weird expected from the director of The Guardians of the Galaxy.
The brainchild of James Gunn — the man who added a few wacky touches to the Marvel universe — the movie is slated for release in Australian cinemas on August 5.
And if the trailer is anything to go by there will be plenty of action, colour and wit, as this DC team of outcasts embark on another rescue mission that goes awry.
It features a star-studded cast with Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn, and John Cena, Idris Elba and Viola Davis playing Peacemaker, Bloodsport and Amanda, respectively.
Will Smith’s Deadshot is missing from the cast due to Smith’s scheduling conflict and Elba had originally been recast in the role before it was decided he would play an entirely different character.
There are also roles for Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Peter Capaldi (Thinker), Michael Rooker (Savant), Nathan Fillion (T.D.K.), Alice Braga (Sol Soria), and Storm Reid (Tyla — Bloodsport’s daughter).
While it will also star Pete Davidson (Blackguard), Sean Gunn (Weasel), Flula Borg (Javelin), and Mayling Ng (Mongal) with Taika Waititi and Sylvester Stallone also set to appear in undisclosed roles.
There are also some surprise inclusions character-wise with the likes of King Shark, a life-sized, walking, talking shark, and Starro the starfish human cross.
The film is a sort-of sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad (the new offering differentiated by the “the”)directed by David Ayres, that follows the adventures of a group of imprisoned villains who take on missions for the government to reduce their sentences.
