The Weeknd, the Canadian superstar renowned for hits like “Blinding Lights,” has regrettably announced the rescheduling of his highly anticipated Australian leg of the “After Hours Til Dawn Global Stadium” world tour.
This unexpected development comes as a disappointment to his eager Australian fans who were gearing up to witness the musical sensation live in action.
Initially set to take place in just three weeks, the tour was scheduled to cover key Australian cities, including Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. The demand for tickets was so overwhelming that additional shows had to be added for each state, underlining The Weeknd’s immense popularity Down Under.
However, citing “unforeseen circumstances,” The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, shared this surprising news with fans. The tour was slated to kick off imminently, making the announcement all the more unexpected.
Fans who had purchased tickets for the November tour dates will remain valid for the rescheduled shows, expected to be announced in 2024. Those unable to attend the new dates will have the option to secure refunds.
The Weeknd’s Australian tour was set to include performances at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Monday, November 20, and Tuesday, November 21, followed by three shows at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on November 24, 25, and 27. Melbourne was also on the tour itinerary with four concerts scheduled for early December on the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th.
In a heartfelt message to his fans in Australia and New Zealand via Live Nation, The Weeknd expressed, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, we must reschedule the Australia/New Zealand tour. New dates will be announced next year, and current tickets will be valid for the new shows. Refunds will be available for those unable to attend the new dates. Deeply disappointed but can’t wait to be there with you!”
A representative from Live Nation Australia and New Zealand acknowledged the disappointment fans may feel and affirmed Live Nation’s commitment to collaborating with The Weeknd to establish a new tour schedule. Further details regarding the rescheduled tour dates will be announced in due course.
As a sign of the tour’s postponement, The Weeknd removed information about his Australian and New Zealand dates from his Instagram bio. His most recent tour date had taken place in Mexico on October 25th.
The “After Hours Til Dawn Tour” was designed to celebrate The Weeknd’s latest albums, including 2020’s “After Hours” and his January 2022 release, “Dawn FM.” During the European leg of the tour, The Weeknd set attendance records in cities like London and Milan, selling hundreds of thousands of tickets and solidifying his status as a global music icon.
