The Weeknd previews dancey new song 'Open Hearts' at Sydney ...
The Weeknd has previewed a new song while performing in Sydney, Australia – watch fan-shot footage of the song below.
The unreleased song, reportedly titled ‘Open Hearts’, was played on the speakers for fans at the Accor Stadium in Sydney last night (October 23). While The Weeknd – real name Abel Tesfaye – did not sing along to the song, he remained onstage, mouthing the lyrics to the unreleased track.
He sings over the chorus: “Fallen angels call my name / But the things you say / Keeps me alive for another day/ Where do I start / When I open my heart? / It’s never easy falling in love again“.
The track’s chorus also includes a dancey, electronic beat, and was accompanied by flashing lights when previewed.
Elsewhere during the show, Tesfaye also gave his collaboration with Lily-Rose Depp and BLACKPINK’s Jennie, ‘One Of The Girls’ – for the soundtrack of HBO’s The Idol, which all three of them starred in – its live debut.
‘Open Hearts’ marks the latest preview from his upcoming album ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’. In late September, The Weeknd released the single ‘Timeless’ with Playboi Carti. ‘Timeless’, ‘Open Hearts’ and lead single ‘Dancing In The Flames’ are all expected to feature on the forthcoming record, which will serve as the third and final chapter in his ongoing trilogy that began with ‘After Hours’ and ‘Dawn FM’.
The artwork for ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ has since been unveiled on social media, featuring a simple close-up shot of Abel Tesfaye’s face, in a departure from the facial prosthetics used during the ‘After Hours’ era. No release date for the album has yet been announced.
A statement about the new album said that it “represents the creative apex of the project, serving as the third and final chapter crafted with existential and self-referential themes as seen with the latest visionary teasers that have set fans ablaze with anticipation for this concluding instalment.”
The final addition to the trilogy will mark the first album from The Weeknd since 2022’s ‘Dawn FM’. In a four-star review, NME wrote: “‘Dawn FM’ feels like the first steps on a journey for The Weeknd to find peace with himself; perhaps next time we hear from him, he’ll be fully embracing the light of day.”
