Rescue underway to free 'entangled whale' off NSW South Coast

A rescue mission is underway to help free a whale stuck off the New South Wales South Coast.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers from Port Kembla are working to free the "entangled whale" near Five Islands this morning.

Marine Rescue NSW inspector Glenn Sullivan said a private vessel was monitoring the whale.

"We have got a good window of opportunity to assist with the disentanglement operation because the weather conditions are favourable.

"Marine Rescue vessel PK 31 will escort the NPWS Zodiac to the entangled whale shortly," Sullivan said.

The volunteers are working with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
