What is a King Pair?

King Pair is a popular term used in Test cricket to indicate players who have been dismissed for a golden duck. A golden duck is when a player gets out in the first ball of his innings.

Only 24 people, including Travis Head have bagged a King Pair in the history of Test cricket.

Australia in Trouble

West Indies waged a sensational fightback against Australia in Day 4 of the second Test match. Defending 156 at the start of the day, young pacer Shamar Joseph ripped into the Australian line-up and wiped out the entire Australian middle-order in no time. Shamar was on a hat-trick with the wickets of Cameron Green and Travis Head. His hat-trick ball against Steve Smith was bowled full on the leg stump, which the batter flicked down the leg side.

Joseph Beats Injury

Shamar Joseph had to retire hurt on Day 3 of the second Test match after getting struck by Mitchell Starc on his toe. Joseph winced in pain the minute the ball hit him on his toe and was not able to stand on his own. The fast bowler had to be carried off the field by the physio of the team.

Joseph returned on Day 4 of the Test match and picked the wickets of Cameron Green, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey to put the Australian team in trouble. At the time of writing, Australia were 147/6 and still needed 69 runs to win with four wickets in hand.

West Indies last won a Test match in Australia back in 1997.
