festival for the states of Andra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Goa in India. The devotees celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm and fervor, the festival will be observed on 22 March, Wednesday this year. Although the preparations for the festival begin a week earlier, a lot more rituals and ceremonies are followed on the day of the festival.
Early Morning Bath and Decorations
The celebrants get up early in the morning, take a bath and wear new clothes, after the bath, the devotees decorate their houses and entrances with mango leaves to please Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganesh, these mango leaves on the doorway also symbolize a great yield and are called 'torana'. People draw colorful patterns on the floor called Muggulu, near the entrances as a significant part of the festival. They also purify their houses on this auspicious occasion with fresh cow dung which is considered pious according to Hindu customs.
Gatherings and Visitings

Visiting the relatives and elderly for blessings is also an important aspect of the festival. A lot of donations are also made by the devotees for the needy and towards the temples on this day.
Ugadi Dishes
Celebrants prepare Ugadipachadi, a special dish as is a compulsory Ugadi ritual. This special dish is prepared with ingredients like jaggery(sweet), salt (salty), tamarind (sour), neem flowers (bitter), raw mango (tangy), and last but not least chili powder (spicy).
Panchanga Sravanam
Another Ugadi ritual involves Panchanga Sravanam, according to this ritual, a pundit is called to prepare the yearly forecast of each member of the house. This ritual to predict the future on the day of Ugadi is one of the many popular Ugadi festival activities.
