has made history as a 13-year-old, becoming the youngest-ever player to be sold at an Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Suryavanshi was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.10 crore on Day 2 of the IPL mega auction at the Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah.Starting at a base price of INR 30 lakh, Suryavanshi's name was floated in the accelerated round of the auction.

A bidding war ensued between the Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals, with the Royals ultimately securing him. This fierce competition seems well-deserved given Suryavanshi's recent performance at the Under-19 level, where he scored a century as an opener against Australia Under-19 in a four-day game held in Chennai just two months ago. His 104-run knock made him the youngest player (at 13 years and 187 days) to score a century in youth cricket, breaking the previous record of 14 years and 241 days, held by Bangladesh's current captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto.

Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi?

The connection between cricket and Suryavanshi goes beyond mere coincidence. Born on March 27, 2011, in Bihar’s Tajpur village, Suryavanshi entered the world just five days before one of India’s most celebrated cricketing moments. On April 2, 2011, under the leadership of MS Dhoni, India clinched the ICC ODI World Cup title on home soil after a 28-year wait.

His passion for cricket began as early as age 4. Sanjeev, Vaibhav's father, a former cricketer himself, recognized his son’s talent and built a small practice area in their backyard. When Vaibhav turned 9, his father enrolled him in a cricket academy. With guidance from his coaches and his natural talent, Suryavanshi quickly made a name for himself. At just 12 years old, he had a remarkable impact in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, scoring an impressive 400 runs across five matches while rapidly rising through the ranks in

After his success, Suryavanshi was selected for the India B U-19 squad in the quadrangular series held in Andhra Pradesh in November 2023. However, during the India A U-19 series against Bangladesh and England—a trial ground for the ICC U-19 World Cup 2024 squad—he failed to perform and was not picked for the tournament.Undeterred, he delivered an impeccable performance at an U-23 selection camp, earning a spot in the state’s Ranji Trophy squad. In January 2024, during the Elite Group B clash against Mumbai in Patna, he marked a significant milestone by making his first-class debut in the 2023-24 red-ball tournament. This achievement also made him the youngest player to debut in first-class cricket since 1986.
