Here's Everything That Happened in the 'Virgin River' Season 5 Part ...

30 Nov 2023

If we were Hope (Annette O'Toole) from Virgin River, we'd begin this story by saying, “I’m sorry. Looks like you’re stuck with me.”

But we're not Hope, and we're not sorry because we love all things related to Virgin River! And since we're hot on the heels of Virgin River season 5 part 2, we thought we'd fill you in on everything that happened in the finale! You all tuned in, right? Of course you did! (Who could resist watching more Mel and Jack content?)

So, let's get right into it while the kettle is still steaming, and unpack everything—and we mean everything—that happened in those two, much-needed Virgin River holiday episodes.

This is where we'd tell anyone who didn't get a chance to watch the finale yet to skedaddle. It's not that we don't want you here... we do! We just don't want to ruin it for you. However, if you don't mind having the ending revealed, and can still can find joy in watching our favorite characters living their best lives in the too-good-to-be-true mountains afterward, then by all means: Read away!

Is Lizzie actually pregnant?

She sure is! Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) and Denny (Kai Bradbury) will be welcoming a baby girl, much to the joy of Hope and Doc (Tim Matheson). What was once a shocking and stressful revelation for the couple has since become a sweet, optimistic turn of events. Everything that was once worrisome (Denny's college plans, Lizzie's mother's reaction, and how they would deal with being such young parents) has pretty much been dealt with or is at least seeming more doable. While Lizzie's mother was not too happy at first, she eventually came around—and even joked about wanting to be called something "cooler" than grandma. It's important to note that Lizzie and Denny couldn't have gotten to this point without the love and support from their community! That's truly the magic of Virgin River.

Did Charmaine give birth to her twins?

Yes (finally)! It genuinely feels like Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) spent the majority of Virgin River pregnant, but it makes sense given the show's structure. (Not much time passes in the world of Virgin River between each season.) Either way, the twins (both boys) have finally made their long-awaited arrival, and were born on Christmas Eve.

It all happened at Doc's office, with none other than Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) herself helping with the delivery. The two have come a long way, to say the least—and this is really a testament to Mel's loving personality. Acting as her midwife, Mel offered to help when Charmaine called her about the Braxton Hicks contractions she was experiencing. This is also the moment that Mel finds out that Calvin (David Cubitt) is the real father of Charmaine's babies.

Does Mel meet her biological father?

Yes, thank goodness! We can honestly say we may have wanted to know the answer to this almost as badly as Mel. It turns out that (can we get a drumroll, please?) Mel's father is named Everett Reid (John Allen Nelson), a man not too far from her home in Virgin River.

Netflix initially teased us in the season finale trailer by presenting us with a scene of Mel finding out that her father was closer to her than she realized. Well, once she found out his name and address, she sought after him by visiting him at his home. As you could imagine, he didn't react well to this, and pretended he had no idea who Mel was at first. Unlike Charmaine's babies, Mel wasn't born yesterday and knows that the man is lying. This upsets her (rightfully so), but she confides in Jack (Martin Henderson) that she'll just have to move on.

We see Everett again on Christmas when he pays Mel a visit, finally admitting that he is indeed her father. He explains that he was thrown off at how much she looked like her mother, but he has since gotten over the shock of it all. Everett is more than ready to talk, and even brought along the love letters he and her mother shared when they were together.

It's all pretty sweet, and all is going well. Almost too well. Yep, a twist is thrown at us when Everett reveals that he has something else he needs to tell Mel, and it doesn't sound too good. (Cue the ominous "duh duh duuuuh" music.)

Are Preacher and Kaia official?

Yes! Preacher (Colin Lawrence) seems happier than ever with his new and official fling, Kaia (Kandyse McClure). Things were already getting pretty serious when Kaia left her long-term husband, Jay, and completely ditched her plans to move to Alaska for a job. Instead, she'll remain in Virgin River, taking a new job as the town's fire chief. Now, we see just how much they have in common (like the secret keeping and the desire to help others). Preacher even said those three big words: "I love you!"

However, it wouldn't be Virgin River without a twist. Preacher hits a rough patch when he gets word that Wes' body was discovered, meaning that he could potentially be in some hot water. Since he was the one that hid the body, he is possibly facing some serious jail-time, which would obviously hinder their relationship. Guess we'll have to wait for season 6 to see how this one plays out!

Are Brie and Brady back together?

No... not yet, anyway. Brie (Zibby Allen) and Brady (Ben Hollingsworth) broke up earlier in season 5 after some trust issues were raised. (Brady doesn't have the best past.) They both had supposedly moved on: Brie with Mike (Marco Grazzini) and Brady with Lark (Elise Gatien). However, the former-couple saw some sparks fly at the town Christmas party. The two were found under a mistletoe when Brady confesses to Brie that he still loves her. They're just about to share a kiss when they are interrupted by Jack.

What's the deal with Brady's new girlfriend?

We don't know, but something shady is definitely going on. The two met in season 5 during the whole town fire fiasco. Brady ran into the single mother as she was in distress trying to find her daughter in the smoky woods. He saves them both, seeing an instant bond formed between the three of them. Brady and Lark begin dating almost right away after this, and it seems to be going well. (You know, besides the fact that he admitted that he still loves Brie.)

Well, turns out we don't really know Lark at all! On Christmas, she gets a call from a guy named Jimmy (Ian Tracey), who just happens to be someone in jail with a connection to Calvin. On the call, he asks Lark how "our little girl" is doing, referring to her daughter. We were already concerned, but it all became even more suspicious when Lark tells Jimmy that Brady doesn't "suspect a thing." Looks like we'll have to wait for Virgin River season 6 to find out what that means!
