Key Event

63' TRY: Xavier Coates scores for Melbourne

The Storm have punished the Warriors who have two men in the sin-bin.

Dummy-half Harry Grant has taken the ball from the ruck, grubber kicks down the short-side, and Xavier Coates grounds the footy.

Nick Meaney kicks the goal and you feel that could be the game.

Key Event

61' SIN-BIN: The Warriors are down to 11 men

Both Warriors wingers are in the sin-bin.

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is off after hitting Melbourne's Nick Meaney high, and without the ball.

It has to be a sin-bin, and it is.

Key Event

55' TRY: Melbourne Storm score against 12-man Warriors

The Melbourne Storm have punished the Warriors.

Fullback Sualauvi Faalogo got on the outside of Dylan Walker and is over.

Faalogo does the massive swan dive, and has winded himself.

He won't do that again.

Nick Meaney kicks the conversion from the sideline to give the Storm a very important eight-point lead.

Key Event

54' SIN-BIN: Warriors down to 12 men with Marcelo Montoya off for a professional foul

Marcelo Montoya has been sent to the sin-bin.

The Storm were awarded a penalty, and Jahrome Hughes took a quick tap.

Marcelo Montoya was never onside and tackles Hughes.

That is a penalty.

That is a sin-bin.

The Storm are on the attack against 12-men.

Key Event

51' NO TRY: Knock-on denies the Warriors

Warriors interchange Chanel Harris-Tavita is over and claiming a try.

It looked like he stripped the ball off a Melbourne player when there were two in the tackle.

The Bunker is having a look.

It's not a strip, the Melbourne player loses the ball, but Harris-Tavita also had a small bobble before taking possession and running away to the line, No try.

But the ref had found a high tackle, two tackles earlier, against Warriors five-eighth Te Maire Martin.

Melbourne survive and hold onto their 20-18 lead.

49' Melbourne's fullback saves the day for the Storm

The Warriors' fans thought they had hit the front win another try.

But Marata Niukore, for the second time, has been denied.

Niukore grounded the ball millimetres short of the line, after a terrific tackle from Storm fullback Sualauvi Faalogo. That is a genuine try-saving tackle.

Key Event

46' TRY: The Wahs score through Mitch Barnett

The Warriors have scored. It is their third try of the match.

The Storm were unable to defuse a bomb, which gave the Warriors a full set at the Melbourne line.

Mitch Barnett takes a crash ball and carries three Melbourne players over the line.

42' Warriors denied by great defence

The Melbourne Storm have held firm.

Warriors second-rower Marata Niukore is over, but held up.

A penalty has been called against the Warriors. Obstruction.

Niukore ran through a hole created by Warriors in the Storm defensive line.

Key Event

Second half begins and Melbourne make a error

The Warriors kick-off in Auckland.

They will run to the left of your screen.

Melbourne's Harry Grant has made a mistake in the opening set. He has kicked the ball out on the full.

The Wahs get an early chance.

Key Event

Slater giving the Maroons confidence, says Valentine Holmes

Queensland State of Origin centre Valentine Holmes joined ABC Sport earlier on and talked about the confidence coach Billy Slater gives players.

"He just instil confidence in each and every one of his players … He's one of those people you don't want to let down."

Key Event

HT: Melbourne Storm 20 leading New Zealand Warriors 14

And so ends the best 40 minutes of rugby league in 2024 (in my opinion).

The New Zealand Warriors may have produced the best 20 minutes of any side this season, scoring two tries and taking a 14-0 lead.

The Melbourne Storm then scored four tries in 15 minutes to take a 20-14 lead at halftime.

Key Event

35' TRY: MELBOURNE HAVE SCORED! They lead after being 'blown away'

The Melbourne Storm looked beaten after 20 minutes. They now lead and what was a raucous Auckland crowd is now treating Mt Smart Stadium like a library.

Jahrome Hughes has been in the thick of everything.

Coming out of their own end, Hughes through a great short ball to  Eliesa Katoa.

KATOA IS THROUGH! Nick Meaney looms in support, takes Katoa's pass, and SCORES!.

Melbourne lead.

Key Event

30' TRY: Melbourne are back! Dean Ieremia scores in the right corner

What a turnaround.

The Warriors have let the Storm back in.

The NZ team gave away a penalty after Jahrome Hughes was taken out after kicking the ball. It was soft, but it is a penalty in 2024.

Melbourne has had three chances and scored three times.

Dummy-half Harry Grant faked to go to the openside, which was the left.

That drew the Warriors line up. The Storm go to the right, and Hughes throws the perfect cut-out pass to Dean Ieremia.

Key Event

26' TRY: The Storm are over again. Great finish from Grant Anderson

The momentum has shifted in Auckland.

The Storm had a couple of sets in good territory.

It's another Jahrome Hughes kick that has led to the try.

The kick to the left wing of Xavier Coates, who leapt and tapped the ball back.

It's the right winger of Grant Anderson who picks it up and scores.

Key Event

20' TRY: Katoa produces individual brilliance for the Storm's first try

Eliesa Katoa — take a bow.

The Storm finally got to play some footy in the Warriors' defensive half.

Jahrome Hughes put up a high kick and the Warriors' centre Adam Pompey leapt in the air and caught the ball on his goal line.

But Katoa legally rips the ball out of Pompey's arms and falls over the line for a try.

Key Event

16' TRY: The Warriors are in again with a behind-the-back pass

Warriors fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad has just produced what Billy Moore has called the "pass of the year" to send winger Marcelo Montoya in to the left corner.

The Storm have completed one set of six in 16 minutes of footy.

The Warriors are all over them. It's an onslaught so far.

"I have never seen, in 20 years, the Melbourne Storm blown away but this," Moore tells ABC Sport.

11' Melbourne drop the ball again

The Storm have gone 11 minutes with just three completed tackles with the ball.

Melbourne's fullback Sualauvi Faalogo collected the footy after the Warriors kicked the ball on the last play.

Faalogo was driven back, and then dropped the ball.

The Warriors are on the attack again.

Melbourne are penalised for a strip in the tackle. It was Harry Grant who was penalised.

The Storm hold on, just. Good defence.

The Warriors looked very sharp. Melbourne need to complete a set and kick the ball up the other end.

Key Event

9' PENALTY GOAL: Warriors lead 8-0 over the Storm

The Warriors have extended their lead through Adam Pompey.

The home side got the penalty after Storm forward Eliesa Katoa made contact with Te Maire Martin after he had kicked the ball.

Melbourne trail 8-0 and they have had two tackles in position of the ball.
