West Coast Eagle Shannon Hurn's record game on ice again, ruled out of Western Derby clash with Fremantle

Shannon Hurn won’t break West Coast’s all-time games record against Fremantle on Sunday after he was ruled out of the Western Derby.

Shannon Hurn won’t break West Coast’s all-time games record against Fremantle on Sunday after he was ruled out of the Western Derby.

The Eagles veteran joins fellow defenders Jeremy McGovern and Tom Barrass on the sidelines in a massive blow to West Coast’s hopes of a remarkable 11th straight derby victory.

The club confirmed Hurn had suffered “a tweak” to his troublesome calf at Saturday’s final training.

Hurn tied Dean Cox’s club record of 290 games when he took to the field against the Saints in round four, but the veteran lasted barely half of the first term before coming to the bench with a calf injury.

Barrass failed to recover from a shoulder injury sustained in the 97-point loss to Geelong last weekend while McGovern was ruled out at the start of the week with a groin complaint.

The defensive trio now join star Eagles Luke Shuey, Elliot Yeo and Liam Ryan on the sidelines.

Into the side comes veteran forward Josh Kennedy, small forward Jack Petruccelle and defender Harry Edwards for his first game of 2021.

Jamie Cripps has been named despite suffering heavy knocks to the ribs against the Cats.

Xavier O’Neill has been dropped but could still play as the medical sub after being named an emergency alongside Brayden Ainsworth, Luke Foley and big man Bailey Williams.

For Fremantle, Tobe Watson has been recalled as expected as replacement for injured Luke Ryan.

Brennan Cox has however been passed fit to play despite coming from the field in the win over North Melbourne last weekend.

Young forward Josh Treacy has been dropped after going goalless in his first three AFL matches.

Darcy Tucker will replace Treacy in the Dockers line up and play his first game of 2021 after his promising 2020 season was ended by a serious hamstring complaint.

Lloyd Meek, Connor Blakely, Joel Western and Taylin Duman are the emergencies, with one to be named medical sub on Sunday.
