ANOTHER DROP! England 88-4 (Curran 31, Livingstone 11) Target: 146 Overs: 13

Livingstone is living dangerously and is dropped again by Pooran, this time off an edge as Motie fires one through. That’s a more understandable drop, but still one you’d expect him to take.

These could be chances that cost West Indies the game.

DROP! England 83-4 (Curran 30, Livingstone 7) Target: 146 Overs: 12

Unusual strategy from Livingstone, who charges Joseph while still on zero and drags the ball deep over midwicket for a 75m maximum. Classic Livingstone.

His aggressive approach very nearly costs him off the last ball of the over as he top edges a tucked-up hook, but a back-tracking Pooran overruns the ball and it hits him in the chest en-route to the turf. Joseph rolls his eyes – that should have been a wicket.

WICKET! England 75-4 (Curran 29) Target: 146 Overs: 11

Will Jacks, caught Powell bowled Motie, 32 (33)

Jacks is absolutely fuming with himself as he doesn’t quite get over the ball and is snaffled by Powell off the final ball of Motie’s over. It’s another decent knock that hasn’t turned into something stand-out. His reaction is one of a man who knows that his England chances could be running out.

England 70-3 (Jacks 31, Curran 25) Target: 146 Overs: 10

England bat quite deep, but with such a modest total there is no need for this pair to take any risks, and they continue just to build a steady partnership. It’s good again from Jacks, who was decent in the last game too, while this is another example of why Curran as an option for a top-five role is something worth considering. The higher he bats the more worthy of a spot he looks.

England 64-3 (Jacks 27, Curran 23) Target: 146 Overs: 9

Spin from both ends, and England remain content just to milk the slow bowlers for ones and twos. Six runs come from Motie’s first over.

England 58-3 (Jacks 25, Curran 19) Target: 146 Overs: 8

Chase is introduced into the attack and England tick the score over, with no need to take risks at this stage.

England 53-3 (Jacks 24, Curran 15) Target: 146 Overs: 7

Hinds comes into the attack and struggles to find his range, with Curran punishing that lack of control. A flick through point runs away for four before a short ball is hammered away to the rope.

It’s good batting from a player who often looks at his best in this sort of scenario. England are ahead of the required rate.

WICKET! England 42-3 (Jacks 23, Curran 5) Target: 146 Overs: 6

Jacob Bethell, caught Pooran bowled Joseph, 4 (2)

Jacob Bethell is the new batter for the start of the final over of the powerplay, and Joseph bowls it.

He starts with a boundary, but West Indies are jubilant as England’s young number four gets a feather of an edge on a classic line and length delivery and has to depart after a very brief stay.

Sam Curran walks in at number five with England needing a bit of a rescue job. That’s good thinking from the England hierarchy – this is exactly the sort of situation where Curran should be promoted above Liam Livingstone in the order.

WICKET! England 32-2 (Jacks 23) Target: 146 Overs: 5

Jos Buttler, caught Powell bowled Hosein, 4 (5)

Hosein very nearly gets Jacks as a miscue drops over the ring and fractionally out of reach of Powell at cover, who attempted to take the catch over his shoulder. It would have been a superb catch, but you’ve seen them taken.

Jacks rubs salt in the wounds by blasting a short ball through midwicket for four more.

But Hosein has the last laugh in the over, getting the big wicket of Buttler with almost an exact replay of the chance from earlier in the over, with Powell this time holding on as the ball dropped over his shoulder.

England 22-1 (Jacks 14, Buttler 3) Target: 146 Overs: 4

Nice from Jacks, who picks out the slower ball and tucks it away through fine leg for four.

This was the partnership that dominated the chase in the second match of the series, and West Indies will be desperate to get one of them.

England 15-1 (Jacks 10, Buttler 1) Target: 146 Overs: 3

Phil Salt, bowled Hosein, 4 (8)

West Indies need wickets and so they decide to give this opening pair some spin to deal with, and the gamble pays off as Salt is bowled off his pads. It’s been a bit of a boom or bust tour for the opener.

In walks England skipper Jos Buttler.

England 9-0 (Salt 4, Jacks 5) Target: 146 Overs: 2

England know that the target is relatively modest and so no risks are needed, which is just as well, as Joseph starts superbly with the new ball.

Four singles come from the over.

England 5-0 (Salt 2, Jacks 3) Target: 146 Overs: 1

Shepherd takes the new ball for West Indies with Salt and Jacks opening up for England.

It’s a subdued first over, with five runs coming off it.

ENGLAND REQUIRE 146 TO WIN

After winning the toss and choosing to bowl for the third straight match, England were once again outstanding in the powerplay, reducing West Indies to 37-5 after a delayed start to play.

Jacob Bethell got the ball rolling for England with a brilliant run out, while Saqib Mahmood was again amongst the wickets, taking 3/17, and Jofra Archer bagged 1/25.

West Indies made a game of it thanks to a rebuilding partnership between captain Rovman Powell (54) and Romario Shepherd (30).

But an outstanding spell from Jamie Overton through the middle overs prevented significant damage, and he accounted for both set batters, taking 3/20 from his four overs.

Some late hits from Alzarri Joseph saw West Indies finish on 145/8 in St Lucia – a total that England will feel confident of chasing down.

West Indies 145-8 (Joseph 21, Hosein 8) Overs: 20

It’s Dan Mousley, with his unique fast spin, to bowl the final over of the innings.

Joseph hammers him through cover for four, but Mousley should have him stumped later in the over as Salt misses a chance.

The over finishes with a flay through the on side for four, accompanied by a yelp of anguish from Mousley after a missed yorker, and that ends an interesting innings.

West Indies 135-8 (Joseph 11, Hosein 8) Overs: 19

Hosein launches Sam Curran away for a maximum as West Indies look to add some late runs to at least give their bowlers something to work with. 13 runs come from the over.

West Indies 122-8 (Joseph 9, Hosein 1) Overs: 18

Rovman Powell, caught Bethell bowled Overton, 54 (41)

Terrific from Overton, who gets the big wicket of the West Indies skipper. Another heavy ball clunks off the bat of Powell and plops to Bethell at deep midwicket.

Alzarri Joseph is the key now to West Indies boosting their score, and he hammers the ball through mid-off for four, before running hard in the remainder of the over.

Overton finishes with 3-20 from his four overs – outstanding!

West Indies 113-7 (Powell 54, Joseph 2) Overs: 17

Archer returns for his fourth over, and it’s a gem of one, yielding just two singles. He finishes with figures of 25-1 from his four, which doesn’t really do his efforts justice. It’s been classy stuff once again from England’s main man.

DOUBLE WICKET OVER! West Indies 111-7 (Powell 53, Joseph 1) Overs: 16

Romario Shepherd, lbw Overton, 30 (28)

Gudakesh Motie, caught Jacks bowled Overton, 0 (3)

This is a statement performance with the ball from Overton, who has interested England’s selectors thanks to his batting displays in franchise cricket as a finisher.

He bags two wickets in the over, first trapping Shepherd in front with a slower ball and then drawing a splice out of Motie to offer a catch to Jacks.

England’s excellent evening continues.

FIFTY! West Indies 110-5 (Powell 53, Shepherd 30) Overs: 15

Another over for Curran, but his middle-over magic doesn’t get a second showing as he yields 12 runs from the over, including a huge six from Powell off a short delivery – a shot that brings up the captain’s half-century.

West Indies 98-5 (Powell 44, Shepherd 28) Overs: 14

Mahmood comes back after his final over after once again starring in the powerplay, and it’s a good over, going for just two runs.

West Indies 96-5 (Powell 43, Shepherd 27) Overs: 13

The fifty stand comes up before Powell adds to the total with a huge six off Rehan.

There’s an outside chance of a catch later in the over as the bowler can’t hang on to a powerful Shepherd drive back to him. It would have been a stunning catch, and Rehan did pretty well to even get a hand to it, deflecting the ball onto the stumps with Powell in his ground.

Ten runs come off the over in all.

West Indies 86-5 (Powell 36, Shepherd 24) Overs: 12

Sam Curran comes into the attack. He’s been expensive at the death of late, but was outstanding in the middle overs in the last match, and he proves very difficult to get away again.

Just three singles come from the over as Curran rolls out his array of variations.

West Indies 83-5 (Powell 35, Shepherd 22) Overs: 11

Overton continues after drinks and from his second ball he gets his studs stuck in the turf, forcing him to drop a bit off line. Powell takes full advantage, lacing it through cover for four.

But Overton responds well, keeping things tight for the rest of the over before trapping Powell in-front off the final ball of the over, with the umpire’s finger going up. Powell reviews after a long delay, and UltraEdge shows there was a nick… not that the West Indies skipper knew anything about it, he was already walking off and has to make a quick about-turn.

West Indies 76-5 (Powell 30, Shepherd 20) Overs: 10

Liam Livingstone gets a bowl and it’s the most expensive over of the innings so far as this pair begin to go up through the gears. If West Indies are to reach a big score then this partnership will be crucial – they’re the last genuine batters, although there are some hitters to come.

Bethell was almost in play at deep midwicket, only to see Shepherd clear his head with a six, and Powell finishes the over with a big shot that drops fractionally inside the boundary.

West Indies 62-5 (Powell 24, Shepherd 12) Overs: 9

Rehan Ahmed is on the receiving end of two thumping strokes. First Shepherd hammers him straight down the ground for a bullet of a four, before Powell latches on to a short ball and dispatches it into the stands at long on.

West Indies 50-5 (Powell 17, Shepherd 7) Overs: 8

England see Overton as a useful option or the middle overs given his ability to bowl a heavy ball, and he’s given a run.

Just singles come off the over as Overton does the job he’s in the team for.

West Indies 46-5 (Powell 16, Shepherd 5) Overs: 7

The formula is the same as usual for England as they turn to their front-line spinner after the powerplay, but today that is Rehan Ahmed, who is in the XI in place of Adil Rashid.

Seven runs come from the over.

WICKET! West Indies 39-5 (Powell 13, Shepherd 1) Overs: 6

Shimron Hetmyer, caught Mousley bowled Mahmood, 2 (5)

Hetmyer lofts one down the ground, but it drops short of the rope and such is the dampness of the outfield that it holds up in the turf. He has to make do with two runs rather than the boundary that the shot deserved.

And perhaps the frustration plays a part as Hetmyer lashes at a short ball from Mahmood and top edges a catch to Mousley. He wasn’t able to free his arms, ended up not even looking as he played the shot, and he pays the price. England are rampant.

West Indies 34-4 (Hetmyer 0, Powell 12) Overs: 5

West Indies need somebody to fire this innings, and Powell shoulders the responsibility, heaving a huge six over extra cover off Archer.

Just one more single comes from the remainder of the over.

WICKET! West Indies 26-4 (Hetmyer 0, Powell 5) Overs: 4

Roston Chase, caught Overton bowled Mahmood, 7 (8)

It’s another wicket for England and they’re absolutely flying here! All three matches have followed a similar pattern of the tourists being on top in the powerplay, but this is the most dominant display of the lot.

Mahmood responds to a drive for four by pitching it up again, and a hint of movement lures Chase into a more wafty drive, with Overton taking the catch in the slips.

Captain Powell is the new batter and gets underway with a four through the covers.

WICKET! West Indies 17-3 (Chase 3, Hetmyer 0) Overs: 3

Nicholas Pooran, bowled Archer, 7 (4)

Almost another wicket as Chase gets tucked up by Archer and spoons the ball into the ring where it falls agonisingly short of a diving Livingstone.

A lovely drive from Chase earns him three runs as it holds up in that sandy area in the outfield, allowing Curran to reel it in.

But that brings Pooran on strike, and Archer gets the West Indies’ key man with an absolute beauty, angled in to the top of middle stump as the batter swings across the line.

It’s a bit of a bizarre shot in the circumstances – perhaps England had got in his head with some inventive field placings? Whatever the reason, it leaves West Indies in real trouble.

WICKET! West Indies 13-2 (Pooran 6, Chase 0) Overs: 2

Evin Lewis, caught Archer bowled Mahmood, 3 (5)

For the third straight match England are taking powerplay wickets, and it’s Saqib Mahmood who’s at it again. A top edge from Lewis falls safe and he runs two, but the very next ball he plays the same shot, edges again, and Archer takes a good catch down at deep third. It’s a sixth powerplay wicket of the series for Mahmood. What a start from England!

Roston Chase is the new batter and he plays out the over.

WICKET! West Indies 11-1 (Lewis 1, Pooran 6) Overs: 1

Shai Hope, run out Bethell, 4 (2)

It’s brilliant from Jacob Bethell in the field for England! After a strong start from Archer, West Indies get muddled between the wickets and pay the price thanks to a bit of magic in the field.

Hope wants to get off strike, Lewis doesn’t fancy it, and Bethell swoops to throw down the stumps before Hope can get back in his ground. England are jubilant, it’s brilliant fielding from the youngster. But Hope is fuming, and you can see why. There was definitely a single there.

The dangerous Nicholas Pooran is the new batter and he sets his stall out with a huge six into the leg side off the final ball of the over.

We’ve had the anthems and it’s Jofra Archer who has the ball in his hand. Tune in now on TNT Sports 1 and discovery+.

AN INTERESTING ‘BEACH’ AREA

One of the issues with the conditions is an extremely damp area in the outfield. The solution has been to essentially cover it with sand, so there’s a patch down the ground in St Lucia that could be a slight concern for fielders. Let’s keep an eye on that.

West Indies: 1 Shai Hope, 2 Evin Lewis, 3 Nicholas Pooran (wk), 4 Rovman Powell (capt), 5 Shimron Hetmyer, 6 Roston Chase, 7 Romario Shepherd, 8 Gudakesh Motie, 9 Akeal Hosein, 10 Alzarri Joseph, 11 Terrance Hinds

England: 1 Phil Salt (wk), 2 Jos Buttler (capt), 3 Will Jacks, 4 Liam Livingstone, 5 Jacob Bethell, 6 Sam Curran, 7 Dan Mousley, 8 Jamie Overton, 9 Jofra Archer, 10 Rehan Ahmed, 11 Saqib Mahmood

West Indies have made three changes, with Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph and Shimron Hetmyer coming into the XI in place of Brandon King, Matthew Forde and Sherfane Rutherford.

England meanwhile decide to give Rehan Ahmed a game in place of Adil Rashid.

England have won the toss once again and it’s no surprise that they opt to stick with a winning formula and bowl first. With some weather around that was even more of a no-brainer decision for Jos Buttler.

BUTTLER’S BARNSTORMING RETURN

This series is Jos Buttler’s first cricket since the T20 World Cup, and he showed that there’s no doubt over his quality with a blistering knock in Sunday’s match. Coming in at a new role at number three, Buttler accelerated in dramatic fashion, making a potentially tricky chase look extremely straightforward.

There’s yet to be a confirmed start time or the toss, but the players are out on the field and warming up so signs are encouraging.

You can read that full interview with Saqib Mahmood here:

HOW SAQIB MAHMOOD GOT A HEAD START

One of the big factors in England having a 2-0 lead in this series has been their ability to take wickets in the powerplay, and Saqib Mahmood bagged five of them across the two matches.

He’s a talented multi-format bowler, but Mahmood has revealed another possible reason for his excellent form, telling reporters that he travelled to the Caribbean early to train with Chris Jordan ahead of the tour.

“I made the decision to come out early and I phoned CJ. The best thing, instead of just coming in and having a bowl, was the attention to detail we had in training to how some of the guys would bat.

“It was like a player-coach relationship. He’s obviously got his own cricket to get ready for but the days I was bowling, he didn’t bowl. We’d talk about release points and all of these things.

“It definitely put me in a position where I was ready to go once that series started.”

Poor Reece Topley doesn’t have much luck. The left-arm pace bowler has been a valuable part of England’s white-ball set-up when fit, but it’s the fitness part that has been his issue.

The 30-year-old’s injury history is lengthy, and when he was forced from the field during the first match of this series he responded by smashing a chair in frustration. He has subsequently been fined by the ICC for his outburst, and has been ruled out of the remainder of the tour.

A fully fit Topley is a major asset for England – fingers crossed he’s available to be considered for the Champions Trophy squad in the new year.

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE LAST GAME

Jos Buttler lit up Barbados to put England 2-0 up on Sunday evening, making short work of a run chase after his bowlers had restricted West Indies well.

Watch the highlights of that match here:

There’s a bit of rain around and a wet outfield, so the toss has been delayed by 15 minutes. The covers are currently on so there’s a chance that could get pushed back a little further. There will be plenty of analysis in the TNT Studio if that is the case though, so tune in at 19:45 GMT for the start of the coverage.
