Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation (Yang Ming) has been awarded the esteemed 2024 “Sustainability Partner Award” by Union Pacific Railroad (UP Railroad) in a ceremony held at UP Railroad’s headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. This accolade acknowledges Yang Ming’s unwavering commitment to sustainable business practices.

Mr. Wen-Jin Lee, Senior Executive Vice President of Operations, and Mr. Brian Tzeng, Vice President of Logistics at Yang Ming (America) Corp. accepted the award on behalf of Yang Ming. This recognition serves as a testament to Yang Ming’s ongoing efforts and the acknowledgment it has received from its partners regarding its sustainability initiatives.

As one of the leading rail operators in the United States, UP Railroad plays a crucial role in inland transportation across 23 states. UP Railroad established the Sustainability Partner Awards to assess its partners based on several criteria, including environmental policies, labor rights, cybersecurity initiatives, and overall business integrity. The awards honour companies that employ innovative models to mitigate their environmental impact and generate value through sustainable practices.

Yang Ming’s commitment to sustainability encompasses various dimensions, including environmental protection, social responsibility, and robust corporate governance, aligning with its objective of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Highlighting its progress, the company reported a significant 61.86% reduction in fleet carbon intensity since 2008. Furthermore, Yang Ming’s Board of Directors has initiated the “Biodiversity Protection and Zero Deforestation Commitment,” which aims to lessen environmental impacts through measures such as ballast water treatment, coral restoration, and beach clean-ups.
