Ray Chan, a production designer on some of Marvel’s biggest movies, died on Tuesday, aged 56.

Marvel released a statement on Wednesday confirming the tragic news.

“The entire Marvel Studios team is incredibly saddened by the loss of Ray Chan, longtime Marvel filmmaker and friend, who passed away this week,” the statement read.

“Ray was an incredible production designer who helped imagine and design the Marvel Cinematic Universe. . . He was also a wonderful friend and colleague who will be dearly missed by everyone who had the privilege of working with him.”

Producer and Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds said “words are pretty inadequate in comparison to this loss” but reflected on his heartbreaking last encounter with Chan.

“The last time I saw Ray was exactly two weeks ago.

“One of last things I said to him was that he makes magic and there’s nobody on earth like him.

“He and I would also give each other a lot of good-natured shit. So… of all the last things you could say to someone you adore, that’s a little scrap of consolation I’ll hang onto forever,” Reynolds said.

Hugh Jackman took to Instagram to pay tribute to the Marvel veteran.

“I am devastated to hear of the tragic news about Ray Chan,” Jackman said.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with some of the best in the business. Ray was at the very top!”

Jackman revealed he worked with Chan again just two weeks ago, saying he was grateful for the opportunity to spend more time with him before his sudden death.
