Broncos star Reece Walsh has responded via social media to the reports he is set to become the highest-paid player in the club’s history.

According to The Courier Mail, Walsh has agreed to terms on a five-year, $5.5 million deal that will make him the NRL’s youngest $1 million player and link him to the Broncos until the end of the 2029 season.

Walsh posted on social media app Instagram a photo of him and his daughter with the caption, “Don’t believe everything you read. No deal has been signed”.

Walsh was due to go off contract at the end of the 2025, but the superstar’s management had always planned to signed with Brisbane instead of testing the waters of free agency, where he would have attracted even larger offers.

If he signs with Brisbane, Walsh will be the second key Broncos spine member to re-sign with the club in as many months after five-eighth Ezra Mam inked a lengthy new deal in February.

With Walsh, Mam, Pat Carrigan and Payne Haas all reportedly locked down long term at Red Hill, the next half decade is looking bright for Broncos fans.

Walsh is set to miss the next 4-6 weeks after suffering a facial fracture against Penrith. This new deal will no doubt ease the pain somewhat.
